Thread: Post-game scorecards?

  1. #1

    Default Post-game scorecards?

As I ask this question, I'd like to thank all of those who have posted replays to youtube and other sources. My question involves the post-game. All previous blizzard RTS games gave you some kind of scorecard. SC1's was broken down by buildings, units and resources, each of which were broken down in separate tabs. So, beta-testers, does anything similar exist in SC2? If so, can we get an image or several? How about a description? I thank those who reply in advance for the effort!

Watch any stream and you'll know that the scorecard absolutely still exists.

Thank you, DSquid. I haven't been watching those, only the commentated replays to this point. Perhaps I should, but time has been an obstacle: I'm trying to find a new job in this economy, and my main attention must be there. But I will give it a try.

I just watched Gifted's stream for a bit. Good stuff. I saw the scorecard. Thanks again!

One thing I found strange is that there is no breakdown for the unit or structures subscores. Whereas SC1 (and WC3) tell you how many units one produced, how many one killed, etc. SC2 only has a blanket "unit score" (the same goes for structures) which struck me as odd.

Maxa, are you a beta tester? I'm not, so I can't really follow up to check out your statement to verify. Also, my look at the card in Gifted's stream was very brief, so I admit to some lack of knowledge. If this is true, it is a loss. I liked these breakdowns because it showed, at times, areas where I needed provement.

I am a beta tester, though if I'm wrong about this someone please point out how to bring up the subscores.

if you go to build order it tells you what units and building are created and when, it doesn't say what unit comes from witch building but its detail enough.

There's a lot of empty space for extra tabs. Since it's the beta, there's not an imposing need for a full scoreboard. On top of Unit and Building breakdowns, Blizzard mentioned once that they would like to have graphs to represent some stats, so there should be a lot more stuff to look at on the scoreboard at/after release.

I disagree. Personally, the very first statistic I look at in both Starcraft and Warcraft III is my kill-to-death ratio (how efficient was I with my army?). That kind of information isn't available with the current scorecard.

To my mind, the build order breakdown is mainly useful for assessing players' early game strategies; it's not as useful for answering more general questions about your units and battles. And even if you think that the build order breakdown gives you lots of information, you still have the problem of explaining what exactly the unit subscore is good for. You can't rationalize the current unit subscore by pointing to the build order breakdown, because there's no point in having a unit subscore unless it tells you something different from the other breakdowns.

Say I finish with a 1500 unit subscore while you finish with 1000. What exactly does this mean? Did I score higher because I killed more of your units than you killed of mine? Or is my score inflated by the fact that I was a zerg player who spawned 200 zerglings while you built 20 carriers? There's no way to tell. How do we interpret the scores?

ETA: I suspect that KDraconis is right (at least, I hope he is!). I was confused partly because unit breakdowns seem both basic and incredibly simple and easy to implement, so it wasn't clear to me why they wouldn't be in the beta.
