Thread: An idea for guardian shueld

Default An idea for guardian shueld

You all know the Sentry and it's guardian shield ability that blocks 2 damage from all ranged atacks.

I had a neet idea about it and i would like to bring it out. I think it would be nice if guardian shield would prevent 2 damage from all atacks melle and ranged, but the 2 damage would be prevented only to shield points ( basicly a +2 armor to shields), i think this would kinda balance itself out.

The guardian shields is most efective against units with small damage packages like the marine and reaper, but since many units with small damage are also melle (zealot , zergling) , i think that my sugestion would be in order.

It would basicly balance the guardian shield ability against all 3 races equally, and without increasing the efectivety of the ability (since it would only work for shield points). The ability would be great against all the 3 basic units , the marine zeargling and the zealot. It would also make pvp a bit more interesting

I would certainly help me fend off Roaches n Lings. No matter how many Z/S/Se I get, I just cannot hold off Roaches.

That's y you need Immortals. Your only hope to defeat early roach rush is for you to rush to robo. You just cant do enough damage with sentry/stalker/zeal.

Try using 1 sentry with you initial zeals to hold off initial ling run-ins and then as soon as your immortal's out, get more sentries and a second immortal and force field your ramp while immortals destroy the roaches.

Use zeals as walls for your Immortals in open ground. Don't let Immortals die to lings, while Immortals snipe the roaches. And I think to counter roach players, double robo after you take your nat is not a bad idea, since you can easily transition to Colossus after, when he gets hydras. Colossus/Immortal/zeal > Hydra/roach, from what I have seen so far.

I forgot who it was I was watching on the streams, it might be Husky, but that's what he did vs a lot of hardcore roach rushers, then he proceeded to own them with 3-4 colossi and Immortal/Stalker armies with sentry support (guardian shield).

Try it, and see if you can execute that strat

Btw, when will you be streaming again? Miss your streams buddy - TBH, I prefer watching your streams because your play-style is closer to mine, and so our ideas are in the same direction if not similar. It's almost like me playing lol!

Hope to see you soon, hopefully

PS: Don't forget the Colossus range upgrade once you're able to; makes a huge difference!

    >_<

Maybe I should have pointed out that I AM RUSHING TO ROBO, but I die before I can get there.

Here is what I have tried:
Blocking choke with gates+core - Check
    Pure Zealot - Fail
    Pure Stalker - Fail
    Pure Sentry - Fail
    Zealot/Stalker Combo - Fail
    Zealot/Sentry Combo - Fail
    Stalker/Sentry Combo - Fail
    Fast Expo - Fail
    Straight To Immortal - Fail

The problem, as far as I can tell, is due to
    A) Roaches ripping through Zealots
    B) Too gas heavy early game to get Sentries + try and tech

Do you 1 gate or 2 gate?

How many sentries do you get for the initial roach push?

How many Immortals do you manage at that point?

In straight to robo rush, you may need to skip probes at some point to accommodate pylons, and you will only need 1 sentry with 1 forcefield when the roaches hit to keep them off your ramp and allow your Immortal time to get out.

Also, how many zealots do you build for that initial push?

And, lastly, do you chronoboost efficiently?

i.e. you chronoboost the nexus for probe production, maybe for the first zealot or 2, then you just chrono the s hit out of your robo, and skip warp gates for now, just to squeeze the immortal out.

You only need 1 sentry at a time with 1 forcefield when you're pumping out the Immortals; if you get 2 sentries, even right after the initial push I think it slows down the Immortal coming out significantly cuz it costs 150 gas. Since you get a ton of minerals vs gas, the Immortal shouldn't be a problem to be pumped out. The trick is to hold the ramp. Zeals die fast yea, but you can replace them and CB the 1 gate to get them out faster, but you priority should be the immortals. Once you have 2 immortals, even like 6 roaches cannot take it down, if there are sentries and maybe 1 stalker (if you can afford).

I realize I'm talking a bout a really really tight time-frame which is critical early on till you squeeze the immortal out, but it seems you need to micro like crazy till your immortals are out, and using forcefield wisely.

I can understand the frustration though! I've so many roach rushes, it's not even funny lol...

I think the best answer to all your questions is "all of the above."

Quite simply, the only effective strategy I've found is 3 gate zealot lol. Ignore core, ignore gas, ignore robo, and just spam zealots. Maybe upgrade warp-gate and charge, and end up leaving myself open to mutas if he survives. Its the only offensive option Protoss has. Protoss is simply too defensive right now.

Man! That's real problem. Because even pure zealots will need speed to beat a bunch of roaches in the hands of a player with good roach micro. If you do end up beating that force, zerg can easily spinecrawl his base with 3-4 of em and use roaches to fend you off while teching to lair, and as you said, get mutas. Even forge/expo cannot save at that point, unless you go mass sentries that would counter mutas, but then zerg can easily switch to hydras after that...

    Damn.

I don't really understand what's the point of the Stalkers. Exactly against what units are they good?
