That is how they were used in SC1, for HTs when they are out of energy and are in battlefield.

I've seen that game, I am not saying they are useless. I am saying they are poorly thought off. Considering all the spells I've seen on hiveworkshop, Dota, Footies etc I believe they could have at least thought of something better. I ain't saying they would all fit in the game but most of them do, and in the case they don't well Blizzard has attempted to do that lots of times just remember Blink.
Meh, just get rid of the tentacle, show some infested look, and Im happy.

You're acting as if I haven't played the game...

I've used brood lords. I see the projectile fine. Maybe it's the graphical settings I play on.

The point wasn't that they're not useless, the point was they're fun to watch. That's a really exciting game. And 90% of that is due to the Infestor.

    At least that's my opinion.

I think neural parasites fine. If the problem is with it being a 'neural' parasite, change the name. Maybe the tentacle wraps itself around the unit's limbs and controls them like a puppet. I mean... it just sounds like the issue you have with the spell is it's flavour.

The splash only helped counter muta stack.
And Zerglings. And Marines, if any Terran dared use Marines against the Protoss (not that any would have survived the pre-Archon Psi Storms) All of which, BTW, are biological.

I do wonder how a mechanical unit can be controlled by a neural parasite.
If a Zerg Queen can infest a Command Center, a mechanical construct, then they can clearly devise organisms that can connect to computers. All that's needed is to get it to the right place to hijack the machinery.

Better in what way? In gameplay, it is awesome. It fits the lore of the unit perfectly (infestation meaning to take control of something else).

Recent games have shown that the sentry might be a more viable counter to mutas than anything else.
It doesn't matter what bonus they give Archons; they're too high tech to stop a Zerg going for Mutalisks from trashing the Protoss before Archons come out. Thus, the Protoss need a way to deal with Mutalisks earlier.

Thing is you are better off with colossus against both of those units.

I don't think that's accurate. They infest the people inside of it not the machinery.

Yea, I'm sure a flying tentacle will find its way to the Battlecruiser and Carrier pilot, that makes perfect sense!

They do, they are called Sentries

Well that depends on what tech you get. If you go Templar tech you're most certainly NOT better off going Colossi.

    They VERY clearly do both.

Makes as much sense as a marine shooting it... besides that, maybe the tentacle has different applications. Maybe it can directly hook up to a human brain stem, maybe it releases a neurotoxin upon making contact that messes with the elecronic waves of robotic units or the brain patterns of biological ones.

Point is. The tentacle looks invasive and disgusting, which suits it from an art perspective. It also leads the enemy player straight to the infestor casting it. So it works from a gameplay perspective too.

    There's no lore yet.

Some people actually thought that Zerg cannot hijack mechanical/computer systems?

You don't get Archons to counter those units, you get high templars. Archons are rather are a last resort unit instead of a unit one would get to fight something. Corrupotor and Broodlord for instance are both useful and are both required for different circumstances. Archons will only be used as a last resort option when a high templar runs out of energy.

Great part of the lore will be based on the units.

I thought units were based on lore, not the way around? Or maybe I'm wrong but common sense tells me so.

It should be but it isn't, at least not completely. Artists like the ones at Sons of the Storm come up with ideas artistically and then creative development has the final word on it. Lore is based on what they have from a design standpoint. I'm sure they do that to some degree. For instance, Metzen is behind the lore and the creation of the units. This might not be the case with every single unit out there. Lore cannot come up with stuff that the art department cannot handle.

Lore is simply a tool. It can be used as the inspiration for a unit and aid in the conceptual design, or it could be something that is explained after a unit is completely created.

Some units like the Ghost are integral to the story and lore. Other units like Reapers are much more flexible, and it's not a huge difference whether these units are ex-cons, mercs, military spec-ops or whatever. We simply know them as fast moving cliff-jumpers that excel at base raiding. Everything else we know about them is flavour text, and I doubt there will be much interest in a Reaper hero (just like there weren't really any Firebat heroes outside of the dude in the editor).
