A worker is also more noticable when it's away from minerals.
Yes, it's a cool idea
No, it's a horrid idea
The Changeling is perfect the way it is

What would really, be interesting is if the changeling could extend its own life by assassinating enemy units, namely workers. The attack would not register as "Your SCV's are under attack."
You could shorten the changeling's lifespan to a mere 45 seconds, and make it so that it would have to keep killing in order to renew it's life, with an attack that has a 30 second cooldown.
But seriously, guys. We are bordering on the edge of making the game far from simple. Blizzard likes having moderately complex units that are still not that difficult to pick up and learn about.

Zerg Cheater: Infiltration unit that joins worker pool, and causes dissent among your worker force, slowly crippling economy....can learn 'Embezzle'
Between the Zerg macro stuff and this whole, 'creep extending' bizness to get the most speed from units, Zerg players seem to have a lot to do already. Do Overseers still provide supply?

This. Nobody gets the overseer for the changeling. Which is kind of weird, since every unit in starcraft is necesary because all its abilities are somehow useful. Changeling just feels like it could be erased from the game, and nobody would notice.
So changeling does not needs to be improved, it needs to be removed. Overseer needs to justify its existence. It needs to justify with SC1 overlord was separated into 2 units, instead of keeping one unit and making detection an upgrade.

What if rather than being a worker killer, it was a mineral/gas "waster".
Here's how it might work:
The changeling becomes the same as the worker unit it sees.
The controlling player sets it to gather resources at the enemy site.
While its gathering, it prevents the real workers from mining from that patch or from that geyser for the usual period (IE: it does the gathering animation and everything, but simply doesnt provide any resource for that player when it "drops off" its collection).
It has a timed life.
So rather than killer workers, its subtly going about its business wasting that enemy's gathering time.
I dont know if this is imba due to messing with a player's resource gathering, nor if it could be spammed badly.

Even just blocking enemy mining would be better than simply standing around.
