The only real problem with a tournament is Blizzard's hideously stupid idea of splitting up the European and American servers.

Yes yes I know the rules say I'm not allowed to diss Blizzard, but in this case it is a REALLY stupid idea. I would love to play versus Perfecttear and Hamshank...but I can't ><


However, we could have a European Tournament and an American Tournament. That would be fun. I would be the first to lose, but it would be fun!

/edit: it would make things longer, but something like a "best 2 out of 3" to advance to the next level idea would be nice...I generally require a game or two to warm up, so if it was one-shot you're out, I'd be a pathetic footnote lol.

All data in games get sent to the battle.net server first, then back to other players. Therefor if Europeans were sending their data to North America constantly, the games would lag a bunch more.

So it's not really stupid and done for a purpose.

...I happen to know a thing or two about networking, thank you very much, as I work in the IT industry (among others). There are PLENTY of ways to get around that little bottleneck and still allow people in separate countries to play together.

The PC has been capable of cross-country, little-lag playing for DECADES. Sequestering the different places without allowing any alternatives is extremely stupid.
