Stuck at 1920x1200?

I'm wondering what has happened to screen resolutions of late. I remember not so long back when 1024x768 was "amazing" looking and you could fit so much on the screen. Right now though it appears we've reached "Full HD" and we're stuck there. Mind you I love watching blurays and gaming in Full HD, but is it wrong to ask for more?

Yes, there are 30" screens with 2560x1600 but they're just nowhere near as affordable as 1920x1200 screens.

Does anyone know why it has slowed down so much?

Eyefinity is impressive no doubt, but personally I don't like extending things to other screens if I can avoid it. Right now I use my 2 screens for multi-tasking only.

Stuffing all that small dots on your monitor, and making larger monitors costs money. Most people doesn't needs more than that, and won't pay for more.
Also, the larger the resolution, the more the video board has to work and for what?

One day not so long ago people said the same about 800x600 and 16mb of ram.

Well, imo, there really isn't any reason for now to upgrade the resolutions.
There is more than enough space for content on current resolutions.
Most video cards can barely run games at 1920x1200.
The current highest quality of films which you can buy (on Bluray) is at 1920x1080 resolution.

So at least for the next few years, untill new standards will take over (and I doubt that that's gonna happen any time soon), bigger PC screens won't be popular.

True, but honestly, do you really need more detail?
The reason that the resolution at the cinemas is higher is because the screen in cinema is much bigger. Current game engines struggle to give high details on current resolutions. No one, imo, needs higher resolutions on current screens - the detail of movies running at 1920*1080 is more than enough for me.
