Thread: My suggestions/observations/opinions of Starcraft 2

If you have to move an Overlord over terrain, then you need 2 things: Overlord speed, and more than one. They are far less likely to spot a hidden Overseer lurking out of sight than they are to spot an Overlord that is actually in their base.
What is this... "Overseer" you speak of... I'm a zerg player and I've never heard of it.

Actually, burrow-moving infestors or roaches could be a good way to sneak a nydus worm into an enemy base as well. If they don't have detectors out yet, they'll never see it.

Even if they do, nydus worms build pretty fast, I find. And sending a queen (with enough energy to use Transfusion) can work too.

For the thread title: I just had a strange idea I'd like to share:
Right now the Phoenix has the Graviton beam, AFAIK it can only target ground units lifting them and leaving them incapable of attacking.
What about making it more interesting? How? This way:

    Phoenix ability: Graviton Tractor Beam.
How it would work for ground units won't change, but it will also work against air units by making them unable to move (small units only.) and will also be "dragged" towards the phoenix or move slower (Massive units.) the Phoenix won't be able to "drag" them if they're bigger. Yet another difference will be that air units will be actually capable of attacking and defend, but their movement will be affected.

And it would make sense lorewise since Protoss are capable of gravity manipulation (remember SC1 Gravitic boosters and Gravitic drive?)

I know it's somewhat crazy, but... heck! the idea is there! I don't think anyone else had thought about it!

    EDIT
    OK on topic:
    this points:

I guess they could improve that system, I don't know how much complexity slight "stacking" implementation could bring if they were to add "levels" to the sky because overlapping models would look awful.

    Hmm... that sounds logical

I disagree, with this. It is far from capable of automatically preventing all attempts at harassment/drop imo. First off, units that are used to drop or harass are fast units. Even if you see an exclamation mark coming, chances are, you might not even have the time to react soon enough to send a portion of your troops to defend unless your units are already where the attacker is coming because your opponent has the advantage of already being in movement towards his target. Of course, this depends on some factors like your army composition, your upgrades, what your are facing against, what situations are you in right now (are you in a fight or just building/teching?) and the map but in general you still won't have enough time to prevent a lot of damages because the attacker as too much of an advantage over you. Another reason why this advantage is so great is the fact that your enemy knows where the sensor tower is and in response can use the fastest undetected route to his objectif or easily uses distraction methods to take your attention away from his main attack.

Talking about distraction, what if the exclamation mark is a decoy? This can easily put you in even more trouble for obvious reasons. You would need to use precious CC energy to scan or take a chance and split your forces away and so making your army much less effective.

Overall, I don't believe that the sensor tower is a tool to prevent harass or drops (or at least it’s far from being a perfect one). Imo, the main purpose of the tower is to compensate for the reduction of the scan's power as a general scouting tool. The problem is, even with this compensation I still find the other races scouting techniques to be much more useful and cost effective.

I agree with you that it is easier without the requirements. You don't really need more than one overlord though.

It's amazing. You'll know when an attack is coming WELL in advance and more importantly, you'll know WHERE they're coming from. This is especially useful against mutalisks. I think you're underestimating just how huge this thing's radius is.

What kind of a decoy would that be? You'll know there's units there. You can send a single medivac dropship to find out what it is even... the sensor tower is extremely valuable.

I have a question, do sensor towers still make that "alert" noise whenever an enemy enters the radius?

    Don't believe so.

That's the sound that plays when your base is under attack.

Oh, because I remember in the Terran demonstration commented by Dustin Browder showcased the sensor tower beeping whenever enemies entered the radius.
