DOTA - who wants to play?

I know there's been threads in the past on this, but necroing one didn't seem kosher.


This is an attempt to get things organized around here. We can set up game times, have a community channel and server agreed upon, and so on. Out with it then - who are you, what's your account name/server, etc.. I'll update the OP as people post their credentials. If you've got Steam, joining the steam group would also facilitate the logistics of this, as people tend to be logged on to steam more than on bnet.

If you don't play but want to learn, I'm more than willing to share what I know. DOTA is a complicated game, but it's also unbelievably fun one when you get a proper 5v5 going. Having enough people to do friendly games will make things even better.

I have a bunch of beta keys for Heroes of Newerth which is basically Dota with much better graphics.

If anyone wants any just pm me, I'll give them on first come first serve basis.

I hear a lot about HoN but have never bothered with it because I don't want to relearn everything on a new game when I've already got DOTA, and the few people I already play with don't have PC's good enough to run HoN.

When I say it's just like Dota, I mean it's just like Dota, has the same heroes, abilities, items, etc. The only thing different is the aesthetics so you don't have to relearn anything at all if you know Dota you know Heroes of Newerth.

Well all the names are different, that's one thing to learn. It being exactly like DOTA doesn't solve the other problem though - my DOTA friends' computers can't run HoN. (yeah, their pc's are pretty old)

HoN also has other features that improve it vastly over DotA. Like in-game VoiP.

I personally prefer LoL though. I'm not good at DotA or HoN, LoL is more friendly to me. I'm not really able to play DotA cuz anytime I try to learn... well, it just doesn't work out. Fighting bots doesn't help either, I still get my *ss kicked.

Aye, learning DOTA in public games can be brutal. Which is why I offered to help new people if we ever get this off the ground. (which isn't looking likely)
