The greatest benefit of Chrono Boost really isn't about Probes; it's about the things that the other races can't do. No quantity of Spawn Larva or Mule drops are going to get you that +1 upgrade faster.
true. i havnt even noticted people going hard on unit upgrades with the help of CB.. but i thought of this as soon as i heard of it, becasue advantages in weaponupgrades can be ver significant in wc/bw , and by the numbers it should be true in sc2 too.. such advantages used to be hard to come by, but now you may not even require dual forge to get ahead! is this overlooked or do you think people do this regularly? or is it not as strong as we suspect?

It doesn't make as much difference when Hydralisks do 12 damage rather than 10 explosive. 11 explosive is a much bigger improvement over 10 explosive than 13 is over 12.
you are right in this, especially since im pretty sure 10 base explosive base damage meant 5 damage to small units - an upgrade still meant +1 .... (considering zealot armor, 5 damage after shield is alot better than 4)

The corrupter beats the phoenix in anti air by a lot. And is it even marginally better than the viking in AA, who is so versatile?
The Phoenix is supposed to be anti-light air. So it shouldn't be able to take on Corruptors. The problem is that Vikings are not light, but they should be. Basically, the only light air units right now are Mutalisks and Phoenixes, which makes their specialty very special case indeed. That, and the fact that they just don't do enough damage over time to kill off masses of Muta.

Banshees are light too. (as are observers and ravens. what about overlords? forgot to check those last night)

Vikings should probably be light in the air and armoured on the ground?

Oh yeah, that's true - I also forgot about that .

That said, if the +1 extra damage conferred to Hydras and Roaches in SC2 is too insignificant to be worth getting, I'm sure that Blizzard would have noticed by now and buffed the bonuses.

Either that, or there's a possibility that the ranged upgrade bonuses were designed with Lurkers being taken into account and that it's not worth getting without them.

However, just recently, I saw a game where a Zerg player made a great transition from Roaches to Hydras with the LvL 1 ground missile attack upgrade as his first from the Evolution Chamber. It was also his last because the game ended from that Hydra push . The fact that both those core units are ranged does make the upgrade kinda appealing.

Because I see players better than me succeeding with it, I tend to get the upgrade even if I don't know exactly how much benefit I'm getting .

As i said they are even more fragile then before because they cost more, and the crucio is supposed to be better then the old tank in Tank mode not weaker...

its tricky when the base numbers are so low; is eitehr +1 per grade or its +2 .. needless to say that is a huge differance.. its kinda iffy to be forced to rebalance the whole unit (and game!) around that, so tehy robably wont increase it if its at +1

what they could do is maybe give it 12 flat damage as now, but an extra +1 per upgrade against armored?

Tanks are support units, not generalists. They are something like Colossi. That is what blizzard wanted for them to be, and not like in SC1 where they are a MUST cause they were just too powerful not to have them. So those changes are reasonable.

Yes but colossi are more durable for their cost,I'm not saying they should be a one man army but at least to last a little more then 2-3 seconds againts 10 zerglings....or 2-3 hits from a immortal...

About air, i think that it should be like this:

Void Rays, Corrupters, & Vikings > Motherships, Carriers & Battlecruisers > Phoenix & Mutalisk > Void Rays, Corrupters, & Vikings

Motherships, Carriers & Battlecruisers are Massive, Void Rays, Corrupters, & Vikings are Armored, and Phoenix & Mutalisk are Light. It cannot be that hard to do, right?
