Default Brood War Zerg Player Character-Alive or Dead?

I was wondering whether or not the Cerebrate that you play as In the Brood War Zerg campaign is still alive for StarCraft 2. Is he?

Blizzard said all the cerebrates are dead by StarCraft II.

In the Dark Templar Saga, Kerrigan had no cerebrates.

In Queen of Blades, it was implied that the cerebrate whom you played as was killed on Char, having stayed behind with Kerrigan while the Overmind went on to Aiur. He was killed by either Zeratul or Tassadar.

He's talking about the newer cerebrate, VoK.

Oh, my bad, man. Well, as Kim said, it's understood that all Cerebrates have been destroyed.

Chris Metzen elaborated that the relationship between the Overmind and Cerebrates is symbiotic, and that the Cerebrates cannot live without the Overmind. Hence, with the death of the last Overmind, the Cerebrates either died of their own accord, or were exterminated by Protoss, Terrans and Kerrigan.

Tassadar killed the first one. I also wonder if the second one even existed. What do you guys think, was Kerrigan really on the surface of Char during Omega, and the Cerebrate was on Char Aleph? I just feel like when it comes time to novelize it they'll have Kerrigan on the platform instead.

Ah, but she was trying to make cerebrates in those novels. Well, maybe not cerebrates like those in the original game, but new human-form cerebrates in her own image. That particular story-thread started way back during that Hybrid short-story, where Kerrigan was trying to make human zerg hybrids like herself.

I'm betting that a lot of the third installment of Starcraft II is going to revolve around the creation of new cerebrates.

But as for the thread, yeah, Kerrigan doesn't make use of the ones we saw in the original game anymore. It's possible some of them survived on their own though, I think. Maybe some of them took their particular brood is now happily infesting some rock out on the fringe.

Perhaps the Cerebrate in BW was one of the first new Queens from SC2, but Kerrigan just continued calling it "Cerebrate"...

Kudos to Arkceangel for the Terran avatar and sig!

It's not a Cerebrate unless it's a enormous, pulsating, slimey slug-thing which can't move around on its own power.

Blizzard has said that all characters we played as in SC1 simply do not exist, it was simply a mechanic to help with story narration.
