What do you mean by 'Keyboard Layout', exactly?

A picture of a keyboard which shows which key produces what unit?

not necessarily, could be a simple list of all the hotkeys available, something easily memorizable basically

edit: opened a newer topic so if a mod can close/delete this one that would be appreciated

Default hotkeys and general tips for playing

hey guys, im trying to make an faq with all the new hotkeys, but while im doing that, this guide for sc1 holds many things that are all mostly true for sc2, so heres the link to it!

    http://classic.battle.net/scc/GS/control.shtml

when i get more definate hotkeys for sc2 i will write them down and than update this post, happy playin!

also in the game so far for toss, this is the custom hotkeys i use:

    1. All my nexus' (easy chronus use)
    2. All my unit production buildings
    3. Upgrade buildings/ Observers
    4. one of my probes that i pretty much designated my worker bee. basically rather than having to move the mouse to a random probe whenever i want to build something, i press 4 and have my special probe selected right away, than use hotkeys to pick build, pick a building etc, pick where it is, if i want more than one i will shift que, than shift que him back to the mineral line so that when he builds can go back to mine, hence saving my need to check up on him. i find this speeds up my gameplay a bit
    5. Zealots + stalkers (since i usually have them together until i go archons if the match goes that far)
    6. air units (i leave them by themselves since i usually focus all air by itself in different areas)
    6. High Templar + other casting units + whatever is left without an ability

in late game i would switch around my hotkey for high temps to match them with zealots to have high temps + zealots since usually later on i'de switch to archons, and switch the stalker + zealot hot key to collossi + stalker

Most of them are the same, though many of the more common ones have changed to "e" because that key is very easy to get to. I actually like it.

Actually, I'd say most of them are different. Zerglings are still z, Hydralisks are still H... I imagine zealots are still z.

Generally they've all been stuck onto keys that are at the left/top of the keyboard. Which is a good thing. But then you have stuff like the Infestation Pit which is "I" and Lift-Off and Land which are "L"... those are just strange.

Thankfully, no Zerg units in SC2 use 'S' as the hotkey :P. When pressing the 'select all larvae' button, I used to build Scourge accidentally because of that :P.

A lot of hotkeys have been moved to the left side of the keyboard because it's supposed to be easier to reach, since that's generally where your keyboard hand stays.

It's far easier to access. Any Protoss player can tell you that. P was used to build Probes. Nothing is more top-left than that

yeh... i can tell u at first it was a little jarring pressing p all the time and saying "where the hell are my probes"

but when u get used to it, E is ALOT quicker, and safer to use than p

I wish the hotkeys would consistently match up with the position in the UI grid, so it's less about memorizing the applicable letters but rather the position they fall within that.

So the top row would be letter Q-T, the middle row would be letters A-G, and the bottom row letters Z-B.
