Thread: The Protoss Sentry: A Little Bundle Of Awesome

Default The Protoss Sentry: A Little Bundle Of Awesome

    I LOVE Sentries!

    Lets review:

    Sentry
    40HP/40/200
    1AC - Normal
    50/100/2 - 42
    Disruption Beam
    8 Ranged (5) - Fast - Air/Ground
..Force Field 50 - Creates a force field that lasts 15 and impedes movement of ground units
..Guardian Shield 75 - Creates a range 4 Aura that reduces incoming ranged damage to friendly units by 2. Lasts 15
..Hallucination Creates hallucinations that cannot deal damage and die more easily. Hallucinations last 60. Enemy detectors reveal hallucinations
*Hallucination supposedly doesn't require a target. Costs no energy either.

This thing ROCKS. Force field to block chokes and escape routes, Gaurdian Shield to pretty much half Zergling attack and Mutalisk Splash, and Hallucination to overwhelm your opponent and scout at gate tech... its the ultimate anti-Zerg.

Seems like Guardian shield would work well against Marines too.

in that description it says it only blocks ranged damage. that shouldnt work on zerglings then. sorry if im a killjoy :P

I hadn't noticed. I guess the senties 8 dmg lets them tear through Lings fast enough anyway.

Yeah, guardian shield is basically the Defilers dark swarm ability.

Having at least one or two of these around in any army seems like it would be hugely beneficial. What of its abilities need to be researched?

For my analysis.. I enjoy them too though I don't use them too often cause of the high gas cost.

The shield is indeed only ranged, making it a very viable anti terran option. If you scout on zerg it's a make it or break it based on their strategy. I don't typically use sentries against protoss yet due to the overabundance of chronos-gate strats.

The hallucination costs 100 energy per use and does not require a target. This is VERY USEFUL pending the circumstance. You can create a warp prism for example for "elevated vision" to assist a pylon proxy early game to warm units in places they should be allowed to do (Really useful against early terran chokes if you tech to warp gate.)

I'm going to consider using it to spam fake hit units on rushes to see what happens.

I love using Hallucination to make Colossi to scout without needing Robotics or Stargate, and to scare my enemy at the same heh.

So how does Hallucination work? Do you get to select what type of unit spawns, or is it random?

    Select Sentry
    Select Hallucination in menu
Sub Menu appears with all possible unit choices:

    - 2 stalkers
    - 2 HT
    - 1 Archon
    - 1 Colossus
    - 1 Warp Prism
    - 1 Immortal
    - 1 Phoenix
    -1 Void Ray
    Select which unit(s) to Hallucinate.

Damn, that's nice. Be a great way to deal with Banelings early on. Spawn four Zealots in the way and BAM! suddenly less Banelings to worry about. Or at least, clog up their path with fakes so they can't chase as effectively. Of course, you could just use Forcefield that way as well.
