Thread: A question for those facing off against Terran

Default A question for those facing off against Terran

I have a question for anybody who's played against Terran frequently. It seems like nearly every map has only one choke/ramp providing initial access to their base, and it's become standard for Terran players to wall that off with a combination of depots and Rax.

Personally, do you find it frustrating constantly going up against this? Knowing that if you wish to punch through to their base, you either need to circumvent the only accessible doorway by drops, cliff walking, rock destruction...or risk heavy casualties going up against line of sight advantage with a predominantly ranged army behind predictable fortifications.

If this is frustrating to you, do you believe this to be a result of the Terran's flexibility when it comes to turtling, or the fact that nearly every Blizzard sanctioned map right now is built in such a fashion? Would you prefer a few maps with a more open floor plan?

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

I started getting frustrated...I have a feeling zerg might be effected more so by this (grant you I don't play zerg much)

    What I've found:
Terran can counter this with tanks below and a comstat.
Protoss - bring in a couple warp rays and ground forces to defend them and you're in lol

    No.

Banelings do 80 damage to buildings, so if I want in, I'm getting in. And Stalkers can do whatever they want.

Denying the scout isn't that much different from my Queen killing his stuff.

As Zerg I usually just expand and contain. Though with lift-off they can still usually expand...

I haven't actually figured out a way to breach this defense yet. Early mutalisks could work I suppose... or maybe Ling/Ling. Only problem is the Zerglings get in the Banelings' way...

With ling ling I've noticed opponents do an odd micro that involves throwing a wall of zergling to soak the damage, and then take the "frontline" in the center and pulling them back. It looks odd so it's obviously micro, The banelings just funnel in then.

I don't know the maneuver.. all I can do is describe what it looks like.

I don't think it gives Terran an unfair advantage, but it would be nice if there were more variety in the maps. Every map shouldn't have a single natural ramp / chokepoint leading out to a expansion. Change things up.

The map pool is SO limited right now, though. That's why every map seems that way.

And Desert Oasis isn't like that. You actually have the option of two naturals on Desert Oasis. The scrapyard map is also sort of a variant.

And then there's stuff like Blistering Sands, which starts off that way but changes as the game progresses.
