im glad he said
WITHIN 2 weeks
aka...probably next week and/or the week after
i expect them to start rushing the opt-ins in, it seems like this will turn into a quasi-open beta. I mean, blizzard wants thousands and thousands of people to test this...honestly 2500 and most of those WoW players who are getting into the game can only provide so much feedback.
So...within 2 weeks i.e. more waves possibly every week, opt-ins PREPARE THE SACRIFICIAL LAMBS WE GOING GOD OF WAR STYLE BIZATCHES

I disagree with those that think there won't be many opt ins the next round. It seems to me that the majority of the blizzcon, twitter, etc invites went out. My wild speculative guess is that there's only 30% left to bring in. So if the next wave is just as big as the last there will probably be quite a few more opt ins.
But really like the post said it all depends on how much load is on their servers. So is 2-3k all they want, or are they going to have to invite a lot more than that to get the job done?

I think each wave will be a blend of contest winners, blizzcon attendees and opt-ins. At least for the the next two or three waves.
I do think they will favor contest winners, high ladder players, and blizzcon attendees over the opt-ins though for the next wave or two. Once all of those have been sent out, I think you will start seeing waves that are primarily made up of opt-ins.
Honestly, that would be the fairest way to handle this. Especially with regard to winners of the ladders, comic contests and the like. Those people really "earned" their access to the beta.

Yeah, but that's only at any given time. The total number of invites is certainly much higher than that. If we took a high estimate of 20k invites were sent out that that would mean that 12% of the participants are playing at any given time. Seems reasonable to me. Plus who's to say how many of those were opt ins? Some are saying there were only 500 opt ins which still leaves plenty of room for the majority of the blizzcon people to be in.
However, my estimate that more than half of the invites have been sent out has far more to do with anecdotal evidence than anything. It just seems to me that the majority of them got in from everyone's reports.
