i've been checking my bnet account hourly since beta started to see sc2 appear.now it seems that all hope is lost :///

It was a new wave I think meant for inviting friends of the current beta testers. The imaging and format was exactly the same as the Blizzcon keys in the E-mail but the wording was different, mentioning that this is a "Friend Invite" key.

Someone on gamereplays posted an email they received today from Blizz... Apparently they got a key. Some people responded saying they heard a third wave of keys for friend invites was going out very soon, if not today/last night.

Nevermind, he confirmed with the person who he received the invite from that it originated in one of the original waves, nothing new...

If they didn't want one, they would flat out say no. By saying it isn't planned as of now, they haven't ruled it out.

No, but nothing wrong with some realism either. I'm pretty sure there was no open beta for Warcraft III and there most likely won't be for SC2.

I don't think there would be a point for an open beta since once they get everything how they want it, they could just release the game. That and they have been working on this game for a very long time I'm sure they are ready for the fruit of their labors.

^ They won't be able to fully 'stress-test' the system unless they send out another 100,000+ keys or just make it open beta. Last thing Blizz wants is to launch a game they spent a few years making, and then have the servers crash.
