I like this idea. It's different from the other mechanics, involves choice, and well... its better than PC, nuff said.

    Bye bye Dark Pylon.

Hmmm.....I didn't notice there were two very similar threads - gonna paste my 2 cents from the other one here in case it gits closed...the first part was in response to a bunch, "No, it was my idea" shenanniganz...

Truth is, a LOT of people had this idea (including me) not quite the way it ended up, but close. I'm happy they went this route in any event. I really think it will be a good fit for Protoss; lots of choice, potential for many different builds, and in my opinion, some challenging macro theatrics.

Even my version was lifted it from a very similar mechanic in 'Age of Mythology' - The 'Pharoh' unit on the Egyptian side was a 'one-only' unit (like the MS) which could 'empower' structures. 'Empower' a barracks and it would produce units and upgrades faster, 'empowered' buildings under construction would complete faster, arrow towers would do extra damage, resource gathering structures would recieve more of that particular resource, and the like.

I was thinking either make the Obelisk moveable, or just make it a unit with the same cost and abilities; the old 'Stasis Orb' model might work for this purpose (?) - the unit would inherit the Obelisk's current abilities.

However, besides the Probe collection mechanic, allow PC to be used on other stuctures. (one at a time - per charge)

    - Use it to briefly speed up the warp-in/construction of a new building.
    - use it on existing structures to speed up unit prodution for that building.

The boost would would only last as long as the duration of the charge. While you would still have to remember to continually activate the charge - the player now has to choose where the charge is best used.

I was thinking of only allowing its abilities within pylon power as a limitation. (to help limit its functions while outside of a base.) However, maybe something else may work better.
Anyway, I guess that it's important to mention that in AoM, you could easily get by without utilizing, 'Empower' - Obviously, it was a help if you did, but not nec 'game over' if you didn't. If you did utilize the Pharoh, you'd be pretty busy; remembering what you tasked him on last, remembering to utilize him for important pushes, multi tasking him on building reconstruction and so on.

Makes me wonder what they're going to do here. (?)

I'm glad my favorite part of the Super SCV idea got implemented. No more simple memorize flow charts for BO.

Nope. Now you need to memorize Time Warp Lists as well

Ya, but all-in Time Warp BOs will never be completely accounted for. At the very least, it will no longer be "simple."

Never seen a ZvT then. BO flow charts in SC1 could be boiled down to a simple few.

Wheeeeee! Another Age of Mythology fan here .

The Pharaoh was naturally the first thing I thought of when I heard this news . Even though the Pharaoh is a definite bonus when utilised as effectively as possible, it's still hard to nail down 'Empower lists', like you would with build orders.

In general, I find that the very nature of the Age RTS series leads to less emphasis on build orders (although they're still very important).

This Nexus mechanic sounds similar in that it will be able to suit the playstyles of different players and that you'll still be able to get quite a bit out of it even without adhering to a strict pattern of usage. At least, that's what I feel :].

Protoss also have a minor Egyptian vibe going on, too, which I think makes this mechanic rather cute, if it sticks :P.

I'm confused. How exactly does it work? You can warp stuff in faster? And stuff that's already warped in can research, warp in units faster?
