I bet they'll apologize for the quality of the Mothership story. That cheesy thing was hideous.
"Beta is coming soon!"
At least I have something to tell my grandkids. =)

I find very high odds that StarCraft 2 information will be released in the phonecall. While I won't be able to predict the status of beta to be released, I'm sure implied information can be pulled from the information that they will share.
I speculate that they'll release information regarding if it's "on schedule" or "delayed again". While this may not be a very direct set of information regarding the beta... a lot of solid speculation can come if they say "on schedule". I'm sure you all can agree.

I've been lurking around the site off and on for about a year. Never really posted anything, but I keep up with all of the on-going posts. Thought I'd throw in my two cents.
I know this has been said in past threads, but it makes me feel better to write it myself. Sorry in advance for the forthcoming wall of text.
Borrowing some of Gifted's points above, we know this thing can go one of three ways.
A. Blizzard execs announce beta is imminent, beginning on X date Y time
B. Blizzard execs announce beta is "on schedule".
C. Blizzard execs announce beta is delayed.
What bothers me about this is not that we may get great news or really depressing news...it's that we are so crazed for this game, that any kind of announcement(related specifically to SCII, or not) has us going kind of bananas.
Blizzard is not like any other game company. Overall, their games have always been a cut above. I wish they truly understood how much of an impact these games really have on us and how deeply the lack of "progress-related" info truly affects us. Lore updates are great, but hard status updates would alleviate so much uncertainty.
In the future, a simple, but effective way to handle this would be some kind of monthly update(and I do mean monthly), posted on the Blizzard boards that could be as simple as:
"Hi friends of Blizzard. We're hard at work on our current game. No beta this month, though. Check back in 31 days."
They may not know exactly when the game will go to beta, but they do know when it wont.
I want the devs to take all the time they need with this game. They have earned that right, looking back over their track record. But they have never been too good at keeping us in the loop.
Anyway, hi everyone. I'm //Maverick\\

Welcome to the forumsThey actually used to have FAQ every 10 business days, that changed around the time of Blizzcon. I think that'd be about the same as what you're suggesting.
Regarding the current flow of information, It's important to note that since they've hired on the new CMs, we've been provided 1-4 updates a day, and some days, we've had 12-14 blue posts. Things have been ramping up and information is coming public that the "emails" that were promised are coming out.
Though I think I may be differing from your point, I suspect you suggest that they should give beta related news monthly. If that's correct, then I guess there are multiple ways to look at it. First, you can put a nail in your community as "pull" is always the tool that attracts more activity. Imagine how much of the community would simply "drop off" for a month with that announcement?
Lastly, there is a chance we're too late in the game for that style of methodology.
This is all digressing from the fact that Blizzard's PR regarding games has best been performed as "When it's ready" and "soon"... they've digressed from this two times in SC2, both of which were major mistakes as the scope of their projects changed from the time the announcement was made to the promised time periods. Ultimately, it would be a lot less stress direct information in the past as it's contributed to a level of "doubt" in the public.
Those are my thoughts regarding the nature though. Your opinion, a good one in my opinion, is just slightly different than my own.

I see your point Gifted about the drop-off factor and I do agree. Negative concrete information on beta timing is apt to kill interest and community activity on the boards. I definitely wouldn't want that.
I think all the boards, this one especially, are what truly make the waiting tolerable. We're all in this together, so to speak.
I just hate the void, which I will admit has been more filled now with news than it has been in quite a long time.
Glad to now be an active participant in the on-going discussion.

I like Xordiah response there, it's so positive ( or incredibly cruel). It's like something actualy might happen at the conference ^_^.
