I like that picture a lot, in part because it's just a really solid digital painting. Everything about the hair braids is just really cool to look at.
On an interesting note, I found this 3D-printable fan-made Viking model, that apparently can really be transformed, without any cheating, and looks good in both forms. I'm very impressed.
I never worked out a way for Blizzard's to actually transform, and I'm fairly certain that they cheated by clipping and scaling parts of the models into each other for the HotS intro transformation, just because it would be a lot more work for them to come up with a design that really worked. They conformed to their high-detail walker model from Wings of Liberty, which seems to have impossibly tiny folded up wings on its back (here they are on the cinematic version).
When people tried to rearrange the pieces of that model to get a fighter mode Viking, it ends up with really tiny stubby wings (and they had to cheat by collapsing the guns in on themselves), and it just doesn't look that great. And with the gatling guns being bigger than the wings, I don't think it ever will.
But you can see this guy got a much better looking fighter mode with larger wings on the back of the assault mode, and it ends up looking really good.
I still can't figure out where the gatling guns go (and it looks like he still has them telescoping), but I'm glad a good-looking transforming version of this design is actually doable. and clipping the legs through the body completely)
