Aaand sold.
Be it through hallowed grounds or lands of sorrow
The Forger's wake is bereft and fallow
Is the residuum worth the cost of destruction and maiming;
Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?
The road's goal is the Origin of Being
But be wary through what thickets it winds.

The fast and loose proportions are my only problem with it— the marine's collar being the worst offender. Still love it, though.

What's the problem with Zurvan? Primal zergs should be different from Swam zergs. They did not have access to much of the DNA and features the Swarm zergs use, like space-faring adaptations.
Zerg visual identity has influence of insects, Giger Aliens, 50's sci fi aliens, and also dinosaurs. Just check SC1 lings (the sprite), they're more dinosaurs than anything else. Specifically, velociraptors.
Anything Samwise does nowadays looks like everything else he does, unfortunately. I mean, Stalkers, anyone? So I agree they should make a bigger effort to differentiate the IPs, and maybe using different artists would be enough; but the "dinosaurness" of Zurvan isn't the problem with him, at all. This is an objective fact, and anyone who disagrees with me is trolling or a lunatic.
Btw, Abathur doesn't look like nothing else Samwise has drawn so far. It was a nice surprise because I was already convinced he's a repetitive artist.

I was about to say that I'm sort of worried about the homogenization of the artwork produced by Blizzard. The Hybrid Destroyer is clearly derived from Diablo, who in turn was influenced by the StarCraft II Hydralisk, while the Hybrid Reaver was clearly influenced by the Archangels of Diablo.
That said, that's only two small similarities. There's nothing wrong with cross-pollination of ideas and concepts like that. I can't say Abathur's worm-cloaca body is necessarily refreshing in design, but it is very appropriate for a Zerg. I can't say the Primal Zerg reminded me of dinosaurs so much as the Naga forces from WarCraft III.
I think Blizzard just needs a greater infusion of new, younger artists like Lucas Mancini (Mr. Jack).
Also, Velociraptors looked more like turkeys, so I can't compare them to Zerglings. There is a sort of primal, ancient element to the Zergling, however, so I can agree with you there Tche.![]()

I got more of a Half Life vibe from Abathur:

I just wanted to bring this to y'alls attention: Apparently you can earn a portrait featuring the original Zealot, Marine or Hydralisk from StarCraft vanilla. Details can be found here, as well as Mr -- Jack's own interpretation of the classic three!

Here's a little something more for all the artists here: Luke Mancini, aka Mr Jack, created a wallpaper at the Melbourne, Australia event for the HotS release. This was a return home, as he attended university here while studying art. An extensive Q&A with the artist is included.
There's also an article dedicated to Jack's rise to his current popularity, from lowly fan to Blizzard employee. Check it out.
