I got so much of it, I need to give some away, VoK deserves it. Unfortunately, I'm too lazy to find the damn button, so here.

I did a really fast lighting comp on the screen, sticking to the color and lighting scheme of the original.



I experimented and pushed the saturation and values, and found that, lo and behold, the new image is far too bright all-around. The darks need to be darker, and contrast pushed up. That solved a lot of the problems the new art has. The specular highlighting is what busies the composition the most, while the original had more of a diffuse lighting quality.

Awesome. What you said is exactly what I'd been thinking all along. In comparison, the original remastered one really is quite saturated and it dulls some of the definition of the marines due to the overall brightness. It actually looks more well detailed and sharper (as it should given that it's supposed to be a remaster) with it darkened. Makes you wonder why they'd even bother making it higher definition if they were always going to just smother it with excessive lighting.

Sure some of the remastered stuff is hit or miss, and I would have preferred red eyes for the HT, but both of these are sick, way better than most SC2 portraits. Love 'em.

Even for this one i prefer the new artwork, more details, more expressive and in line with sc2, plus we finally get rid of that inexpressive potato face that a lot of people seems to love for some reason... Maybe i like the new ones because i am not nostalgia-blinded, just a matter of opinions i guess

i like the artsc2 but reallyi like more relax original protoss in sc like artanis in xelnaga temple stoic when he end his work

And that HT and Infested are very nice. Haha, you can see the artists' conceit with the flash of light with the HT; they're saying, "Yeah, atmosphere, sure, great... but look at all the detail we put in dis, yo! We good."

Good stuff that HT and Infested, i still like the sc2 infested btw, looks a bit like a necromorph (if watched from the editor)... For the sc2 HT portrait... This remastered HT is way ahead
