Even for this one i prefer the new artwork, more details, more expressive and in line with sc2, plus we finally get rid of that inexpressive potato face that a lot of people seems to love for some reason... Maybe i like the new ones because i am not nostalgia-blinded, just a matter of opinions i guess

Maybe you're just the kind of person that prefers childish make-believe fairy-tales over gritty, semi-realistic sci-fi military representations.

Why does nobody get that the point of a remaster is to be in line with itself, not a totally different game? It's not that hard. We already have Mass Recall for SC1 in SC2.

It looks alien and enigmatic. The goofy SC2 zealot looks like the success kid:

Like most of SC2, it tries too hard to be epic and fails miserably.

I think the Zerg victory screen remaster looks more in line with the original (though it's missing the Zerg flyer silhouettes in the distance) than the Protoss one.

It's interesting to note that the old ones have a lot of darkness and shadows to them whereas the new ones have more lighting. The Psi-blade and lensflare of the new Protoss one is rather distracting and takes away from the ominous and alien look of the original. Also, I wonder why they removed/reduced the size of the shoulder pads, collar and that thingamabob in front of its face for the new one?

What's so expressive about the face of the new one? I think the angle at which we see the figure and the way it poses gives us its "expression" rather than its face. The new one seems to have more narrow eyes and that's probably just because of the angle of its head.
Yes, that's right! That is indeed ME on the right.

I don't like all these humanized protoss in SC2, I quite liked the inexpressive "potato" face because they actually looked alien (kind of like the greys)

This SC2 art stuff needs to stop.

That's actually a good point. Protoss SHOULD be expressionless. Just like non-mammalian animals seem expressionless (mostly) to us, it's a sign of being alien. Granted, they are humanoid and we are supposed to relate to them, so that is tempered somewhat, but, never the less, give me potato face over baby face like Gradius said.

Holy... dat comments... yes btw i like dark tones/artstyle/stories, like dark souls or the first starcraft and more colorful ones, like battlechasers, starcraft 2 (that misses the tone of the story imho) or warcraft 3 (i don't like very much WoW, it's too cartoony even for me), without calling them childish... Btw if i wanted a gritty/semi realistic representation there was WH40K already... And i am aware that the gritty-dark style losed popularity over the years, maybe because we are no more on the 90's for a while now and Blizzard losed the serious tone on his stories for the most part

And if you want childish fairty-tales, you've got ... well ... everything else. Gritty is much rarer than colorful. (Did you even think that argument through?)

Didn't really lose its popularity, the industry just took on more casuals. Core gamers usually prefer a bit more realistic, or at least more depth.

    without calling them childish
I'm not just calling it childish because of the colors, I'm calling it childish because it's childish, cue Gradius post.

The only thing i can agree is that the expression on the remastered toss is a bit strange, everything else is fine with me, he even got almost the same skull of sc1 tassadar... Looks like i am one of the few that like both very dark stories/tones/art (dead space 1 for example) and colorful/light hearted ones, even if i hate the tone that sc2 takes with wol and hots (one of the worst stories ever told the one on sc2 hots)... Well it's a matter of tastes at this point

Oh yeah? What's the sample size?

Just kidding, I miss gritty too. The cold, harsh world of SC1 was great, regardless of whatever else was out there.

In any case, the uh...thong, I guess, makes me really uncomfortable. I really wish that looked different. Granted, it was thong-ish originally, but now it's just even worse. I am super not interested in Protoss junk.

I stand in accord with the "potato face", as it looks cool. Other than that...y'know, the old art really is outdate. Stylewise it's great, but the quality of the art...hm. But at least it does look alien and off-putting. The new guy seems like the kind of smug character that I always despise in game art.
