I was considering the iTampon, but then I realized I overlooked this at CES http://www.skiff.com/skiff-reader.html

Though I'm an art student I detest Apple, Macs and anything affiliated with them.

And iPad? iPad? Does anyone else want to read that as iPod due to its wide use? They should have named it the iSlate. Now THAT'S a badass name.
    Aaand sold.

Actually, when I first heard of it, it was referred to as the iSlate, Visions of Khas. You're right though - it is a much better name. Admittedly, the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw iPad was a paper pad with the Apple logo on it. Such a fail name.

If memory serves me correctly. Although it's been a long time since I heard the then rumor and the person referred to it as the "iSlate." I also think I read it someone where it was also referred to as the "iSlate."

It's funny just how much HypnoJobs has taken over the community. People liked Apple at first because it refused to things the M$ and IBM way, and while I was never an Apple fan I supported them for their efforts.

The last decade, however, has seen Apple turn into the very beast they hated, and in fact, they're even worse at it now. I can't tell you how many times they crack down their forums over -legitimate- complaints over product defects, and mysteriously the threads are gone hours after creation. They censor, they block, and they refuse renovation.

The Droid ad says it best:

" This is a world of “nope, “nuh-uh’”,” and “sorry, Charlie”.

A world of smiling denial. Petty tyrannies that have made their way into our cell phones. Into the very way we choose to speak to another human being. There are dozens of doesn’ts. Doesn’t allow customization. Doesn’t run multiple apps. Doesn’t allow you to swap out batteries. doesn’t allow open development. These arrogant little devices are barely worth more than the pocket link they rest upon. Because now there’s a phone so smart, so strong. So subservient to its user, it refuses to include “doesn’t” in its dictionary app.

In a world of doesn’t. Droid Does.
    "

That sums up my thoughts on Apple, and ANY of their products. The iPad looks like it's another overpriced, overhyped, underfunctional device that will sell millions merely because it's 'Cool' and 'in.'

    Bah!

Apple became popular because it was the first company to publicly release a computer with a GUI.

Let's compare the iPad with a much more practical product, the netbook:

    netbook:
    standard 1.6 ghz atom cpu
can run virtually any common program
    multitask enabled
    can watch HD video
    has several inputs/outputs
    full featured keyboard
    10-12" screens
    replaceable battery
    $300-$400

    iPad:
    1.0 ghz cpu
can run only apple apps (NO FLASH)
only one program at a time (WTF)
cannot watch HD video (not even widescreen)
needs adapters for just about everything
touch keyboard that is less functional and way more awkward to use than standard keyboard
    10" 4:3 screen
    non-replaceable battery
    $500 (50% more expensive)

    Hmmmmm....

Actually that would be more like 20% more expensive.
