I honestly do believe that. At a sales call they're mostly interested in sales, and beta is in no way any sort of news for them. ATVI is a massive company; SC2 is a pretty small bit relative to the "big picture" investors are looking at.

ATVI stock was up 10% after the conference call where they said SC2 was delayed half a year.

You mean the conference call when they said they were on track for a modern warfare 2 release just before the holidays?

This is a videogame company, investors look at their products which in this case is the videogames. Starcraft 2 is a HUGE part of ATVI right now, Activision acquired Blizzard for WoW and in anticipation of Starcraft 2. Thats Blizzard's main revenue and potential revenue.

Let me try and explain again, beta = sales. If beta starts Feb 1, that means I as an investor can expect big sales to start happening between June 1 - August 1, as opposed to being in limbo for the past 2 years with no beta info. Investors invest in ANTICIPATION of games, look at the build up of the stock from early 09 to the release of MW2. Expect the same when sc2 finally has a solid deadline and release(aka BETA).

Your average investor cares about earnings reports and earnings predictions. Many of them don't give two shits about video games. The word beta is absolutely meaningless to them, and it should be too early for them to set an official release date. Honestly if Blizzard wanted to make a big announcement about future products it would probably be about their new IP MMO.

Beta is not sales, and investors don't follow SC2 closely like we do.

And no, SC2 is not a huge part of ATVI, and probably won't affect Q2 earnings much even if they manage to release it in June.

People invested in Blizzard don't invest in Blizzard because they make fantastic cars.

Your statement is just a copy of what others have said and only ignorant morons believe it. If you invest in a company focused primarily on video games, well obviously you care when a video game is released. Its you're damn money. Investing in either Activision or Blizzard means you're doing it because there's potential profit you see there. And if said company is developing a game for six years, profit is not maximized, thus money might be lost.

Please don't call me an ignorant moron. This isn't the SC2 General discussion forum, and baseless insults add nothing to this discussion.

Many investors invest to make a profit without any vested interested video games themselves. They don't care about a silly free beta. Also please keep in mind that it's all now one big stock under ATVI, and SC2 is relatively small portion of investment when you consider all the massive publications the Activision branch has going + WoW.

Yeah, no offense but thats pretty naive. People, including myself, invest in companies of particular industries since thats what their stocks are compared against. Activision Blizzard is a videogame company in the videogame industry, of course the investors look at their development and release line-up. People don't look at a company and say "Oh gee, they just made alot of money, I'm going to invest in them." Its about prediction and the best way to anticipate growth in a company, and consequently its stock, is to examine the products they are releasing and plan to release in the future.
