When a company specializing in video games spends more time making merchandise off their primary product as opposed to the products themselves...then yes, I'd say they're sellouts. What've we got now...books, mousepads, board games, action figures, bedsheets, plush toys, keyboards, and hundreds of other products.
But the selling out I'm specifically referring to are all the paid coverage they get from media outlets and trade shows. Companies like GamePro or IGN pay them good money for exclusive screenshots and insight into the game. If they didn't spend so much damn time focusing on BlizzCon's and the next media buyout...would the game have come out any sooner? Possibly...

What would Blizzard be selling out to? Their own IPs?
Usually when I think of the term "sell out" I tend to think of individuals blindly endorsing/advertising products for the money.
Blizzard is just being greedy, which is kind of their jobThe idea of a massive corporation "selling out" just sounds silly :P
Edit: I have pretty strong doubts about marketing/merchandising slowing down games. Designing and marketing merchandise and card games is a whole different skillset from developing video games, and should require a new/different set of employees.

Ugh. You guys still didn't get it.
I'm not saying Blizzard is hyping you all up for a let down. I'm saying you are all idiots for thinking the Jace Hall Show is going to be the Blizztastic Beta Reveal. Idiots. Morons.
Yes, you who believes the beta is revealed on the Jace Hall show. You'll be sad panda and I will laugh.
All because you're taking something as little as Blizzard saying 'Check us out, we were on the Jace Hall show' and blowing it out of proportion.

Agreed, but events like BlizzCon could have a HUGE impact on the course of development. It takes tremendous coordination to pull something off like that. The teams needs to produce presentable models for the panels, animation, videos...many of which could be throwaway. Furthermore, it involves considerable time from people like Dustin who could be focused on production instead of presentation. And on top of all that they need to get the game to a certain solidarity so people can have a good experience playing it.
Media buyouts could also serve as a distraction to a lesser extent. Mainly it's the countless events and tradeshows they regularly participate in. But on the flipside these can also be beneficial by giving the team some solid feedback and statistics.

Of course, Jace Hall isn't going to reveal the beta. I just want some entertainment with some hidden hints. That's all I ask for.

Triceron, who said they expected Jace Hall to reveal the beta (serious question, I missed a few pages)? Personally I'm just hoping for some more SC2 insight/news. I can't even remember the last time I saw a good interview.
