It's a UMS map where you play on a team and try to micro against another team. You have to make the most of your units, otherwise you'll give away points to the other team, which gives them the ability to upgrade to better units & you will lose. Very fun.

I generally don't like UMS, but team micro arena, and other variant (nexus destroyers), are great.

And Gradius you wouldn't have any resources for your big army(if you would even survive that long ), when my perfect harasing would start

It's been many years since i played sc1( Sc vanila, never played broodwar), but i still remember now, how ridicously easy, it was to win with the zerg with mass rush . Probaly 95% of all the sc games i ever played, were less than 3 minutes long So it's not my fault if i never experienced any macro or lategame to apreciate it, could be since i was so good , or the game was so unbalanced
Unfortunately, one of my favorite maps is blood bath and other micro maps.

I've gotten pretty good at withstanding Zerg rushes, especially as Protoss. Stacking your probes on one mineral and then attacking with them will absolutely shred those poor zerglings. Then, if you don't kill me in the first couple minutes, or at least do enough economy damage, my zealots will take anything you can throw at them. Rushing screws your economy, so if you rush, you better win.

So by "your" definition, how do you distinguishe a macro player from an micro one?
The way I see it, micro is the act of extensively giving commands to one or a small group of units while macro would be defined by the act of giving less commands or commands that encompass the "big picture" of the fight (i.e.: those groups go there and attack there while those groups go there and we'll do a pincer move like that). Macro would also imply managing your base/empire/army/etc. "Turtling" is a macro oriented strategy but it doesn't define macro.

By those definitions, doing a "zergling rush" like you were talking about is not a micro oriented move but a macro oriented thought because it encompass the big picture of the action. The act of moving your zergling around once they get to your enemy on the other hand is micro.

And so, a micro oriented player would be a player that extensively manipulate his unit around on the battlefield (kinda like a captain I guess) while a macro oriented player will manage his army more by thinking about the big picture (more like a general). Another way to see it is a micro player will try to save his units while a macro player will try to replace his lost units.

Being as awful as I am at micro I can't manage pvp very well at all, there's just no way to out-macro anyone on fastest-map-possible, which is the one and only widely available map these days.

That being said, when fighting an opponent which doesn't macro at all (AI) I can do quite well, my record is 4 Brood Wars AI Vs. myself.

Macro is simply harder for me to do. In the frantic mess of choices that need to be made, the ones I'm most most likely to forget to do are "build more production facilities" and "manage my workers." I have a hard time focusing on gaining numbers and an easier time focusing on gaining tech. I'm also not good at expanding.

I'm the worst kind of Zerg player >_<

I completely understand how you feel DS, being a really bad macro style zerg player myeslf *sigh* I tend to do good macro on the first minutes of the game but once I get my army I forget about it all and always get steam-rolled when my opponents have 5 expansions and completely obliterate me.
The only games in which I win are the ones in which I go on an all-out rush, or if my opponent is as badly oriented in macro as me

Once Blizzard gets macro right I think you guys will find Starcraft macro allot more fun.

I'm probably equal at both. That is, equally crap. But, i think i got the hang of macro with Protoss. Expand, and hotkey zealot like nuts
Good macro isn't hard to learn. You just gotta remember to assign your quick returns to buildings and upgrade when you have the money. There's obviously more to it though. my bases always look like such a hack job by the time the game's over...
