@GnaReffotsirk: Look at past expansions. They all had major threads that were resolved in each one.
SC: Overmind being killed.
SCBW: UED defeat. Kerrigan's rise.
WC3: Burning Legion.
WC3TFT: Illidan going to outland and Arthas taking the throne.
Each StarCraft 2 product will have its own theme like this which will resolve the major threads while at the same time introducing more. They're basically self-contained in terms of the overarching story. This is simple. I don't see the problems some people are having with this.

While you have a good solid basis on this set of examples... something to consider is that at the end of SCBW, they did have the page of text hinting that Kerrigan was waiting in a way that had good dramatic flair. I also hear that they didn't neccessarily know where they wanted to go with it at the time so it could have been a slightly inexperienced decision as a team in comparison so might not provide a solid point.
BUT, in light of that, I could imagine them "resolving" Wings of Liberty in the same fashion with "hints" to future action in a similar form. I also wouldn't be surprised to see the "splinter protoss campaign" work the level of "cliffhanger" that the secret mission in SC:BW provided.
Just some points to expand your examples.. I want to state that they are completely compatible.

They're tying up the Lich King story with Arthas' fall. They might do that with SC2 but diverge in a different direction with Kerrigan, just so it's not so cliche. Maybe Kerrigan will get redeemed after all?

@Gifted: I agree. Totally. I should've added those there but I did in other threads and didn't feel like readdressing them because .. well .. I'm lazy with beta anticipiationCurse you, you damn torturor!
Anyawys, of course, they're going to also want to introduce you to other plot lines kind of like, say, Illidan in The Frozen Throne, but, it's not like there's going to be major things left undone like, say, the Halo 2 ending. I guess I should've said it more like this:
"The major story for each campaign will be resolved akin to how the Overmind was destroyed. There will also be new plot lines introduced like the Hybrids in order to make you look forward to additional products. It's not like they're going to cut you off, say, in the mission before Kerrigan comes out of the cocoon. If a campaign is centers around something, it will be resolved in order to make room for additional struggles."

If Kerrigan gets redeemed in some bullshit way they've done it wrong. She should go out ripping hearts from chests and bathing in blood. A pure, unfiltered evil.
Always play with fire.

Do we know if her evil side is caused by her infestation, the events that led up to the infestation or her history? She wasn't that much of a bitch pre-infestation, but she was also resoc'd, so it's hard to tell what her real personality is.
