A while back, when I suggested that the Zerg be able to infest barracks for Infested Terrans, it was shot down because "Barracks are too vulnerable."
And yet, any other production center would not be plentiful enough...

So, I still think that the Barracks would be a good target, but then we have the problem of:
What role would the Infested Terran fill?

Banelings fill their old role in a much better manner, I agree. Maybe infested terrans are only needed for plot reasons. Still, I liked the March 2008 version of the infested terran.

The ones that were firing GUNS?

IDK. I'd prefer a more organic attack.

Im of the belief that the lore problem is getting in the way of some great gameplay. Blizzard has retconned bigger things than "Protoss can't be infested". Give the zerg the ability to infest buildings! I cant think of anything more zergy than that.

Actually, lore is not a problem. Building infestation shouldn't necessarily equate to the ability to infest biological entities, after all, it's simply an addisional organic structure that just happens to situate itself in and on the building (it's unlikely that the Zerg would be able to wire themselves into either electronic or psionic systems originally installed in Protoss and Terran structures), much like ivy "infests" walls. And who said infested buildings must necessarily produce units? One could come up with more interesting and creative functions for them. What if, for example, an infested building would spread around itself a special kind of poisionous creep that damages other enemy buildings (and units?) nearby? And that's just one idea off the top of my head (not particularly original one either).

^ This, Infestation could mean something other than biological mutation.

Some repeated ideas as follows: Disable building, AoE damage effect, Plague-like effect, Spawns Zerg creature.

I would suggest the building collapses into the ground like burrowing or depot lowering (disabled and enables pathing), but that would look ridiculous :P

The unit choices for multiplayer were chosen because of gameplay mechanics. If we're talking more about lore aspects of Zerg evolution, I think singleplayer is where it's at.

From what we know, there is the Brutalisk, a new large zerg threat; and the Centaurs, infested terrans with pincer-like legs. These two are early examples of what kind of creatures we will be seeing when the campaign hits.

Where are those from? First time I hear about them.

I'm not sure of the exact source either, but it's in the SCwiki and relates to a world from the SC2 Singleplayer.

Iv'e always wondered when thinking of singleplayer lineup of units, who the hell is Kerigan gonna talk to? I mean the cerebrates and the Overmind are gone right? Would Zerglings suddenly be able to communicate now?
