Thread: Reapers: Grenades or Mines?

What reapers throw aren't really grenades or mines. Real-life grenades wouldn't have a 10 second (or whatever) timer; it's too easy for the enemy to avoid that. Also, these are stealthy enough that the commander (the other player) might not notice them and therefore suffer terrible, terrible damage.

In real-life, there are launched unstealthy mines, however, they don't explode after a certain period of time.

It doesnt have to look exactly the same it just has to be visible and grenade-like.

Why not post suggestions then instead of telling us what we already know it needs to look like? Because so far I think D8 Charges work perfectly fine.

See, what's easier to swallow? Throwing a flat mine onto the ground that has a big explosion?
Or throwing a grenade that doesn't roll around on the ground, is big enough to spot and target, and has a big explosion?

Don't marauders shoot grenades tho? I like the idea however.

They changed maruaders to shoot rockets like everything else in the terran army.

No, they didn't. SC2Armory, SCWiki, and IncGamers wiki all list the Marauder as shooting "Punisher Concussion Grenades." In the Campaign, these can be upgraded to "Jackhammer" class.

Really? I was never aware the animation changed, and I also was never aware that it was no longer called a concussion grenade or something.

And really, everything shoots rockets? Marines don't, neither do Hellions, battlecruisers, ghosts, tanks, firebats, wraiths, goliaths, vultures, or Thors. I'm probably missing some units as well.

So I can just build 10 reapers and demolish your 5 Pylons? Or Nexus? Yeah, fucking great! They can put lower timer so you can use them effectively against units. Otherwise it is idiotic. You can't prevent them from exploding, so he can destroy, for example, Roach Warren with so little effort. There is no balance there...

It was a very very slight exageration. And goliaths, wraths, thors and ghosts do shoot rockets. Oh and battlecruisers if you get the upgrade.

The animation has been changed to a rocket and I suspect the tooltips will be changed shortly aswell.

Those 'rockets' are still rocket propelled grenades.

The Reaper's mine is not a real mine. It's a charge. It's a time bomb that's thrown. Grenades are more or less delayed explosives, not timed. Mines are usually triggered by the victim, usually by proximity. I think it's fine as it is as a thrown time bomb. The idea of a time bomb has the potential of doing greater damage than grenades, because you can fit more explosive power in it. Grenades (thrown) are meant to be portable, so they don't have the explosive power of a real bomb. I like the idea of a bomb because it gives the Reaper a sense of being more risky, tossing around bombs for a bigger bang instead of more practical grenades. It fits the raiding niche of the unit.
