There simply isn't as much. They don't take as long as SBS unit production; they don't require as many actions; and they don't even happen at irregular intervals (unit production is based on unit build times). All of these show that SBS unit production is much more difficult than the current batch of macro mechanics.

My specific predictions may be off, but my point still stands: these macro mechanics do not provide the sheer quantity of macro that SC1 had. And thus, they do not constitute sufficient macro to allow for a macro-focused playstyle.
Its funny cause a whole lot of people say that the micro macro balance in SC1 was too much macro. The level of macro doesnt need to be as high as SC1 to create macro playstyles. Im always a fan of adding more macro but I can live with the level they are giving. Further more are you taking into account things like Warp-In. Frankly Id like to see how you compare SC1 zerg macro with SC2 zerg macro.

If you like macro, you're on luck! It's easier to do now, so all kind of players are going to macro more! You should be the happiest man in the world!

In SC1, Macro became more important than Micro.

I think allot of that had to do with the Esports community wanting macro maps.

Perfecttear... u stole my words. What u said is exactly what ive been posting on these forums since the beginning of the macro-fever. Aproximately .00001% of the people that will play starcraft are so called pros, people that will play for the sake of being the master of the universe in starcraft, the will enter tournaments, ladder stuff, which games last 15 minutes....

Everybody else will play for the fun that means playing a game like starcraft. Macro mechanics are stuff that u will be forced to use because of the simple fact that it is in the game. U have the ILLUSION OF CHOICE of using them or not. But u will have to use them if u dont want that ur game lasts 5 minutes because the other guy will play like his life depends on winning.

The example that u mentioned about Age of empires is really exactly what will happen in starcraft. I played it ages ago when the game was released. The problem was: There were 4 resources: Food, gold, wood and stone. Once ur gold mines were depleted, there was no other mean to obtain it but use markets, which was a fuckin pain in the ass. In the food area, once ur food sources were depleted (like berries busshes and animals) u had to build farms, which were really, really really slow. And when they depleted u had to rebuild them, every single farm.... every single fuckin time. And guess which were the 2 most needed resources in the game????????

This made the game so slow... that managing resources where half the time of the game. But we could not be mad about this, since this has been age of empires premise from the very beginning of the series. Half of the game is managing ur resources. Period, if u dont liked it u better go play starcraft and release a barbarian slaughter, u uncivilized beings...

Now... i see this Macro stuff, about being able to gather more resources, that stupid idea early this year about gas geysers depleting (oh god the nightmares), suggestions in this forum about putting a gas mechanic... All of them go against the spirit of starcraft franchise... The main objective was to manage ur units, to defeat the other team... PERIOD. No resources managing shit.

As a final comment, it comes to my mind the final mission in Brood war... OMEGA. Oh god... oh my god... it was a glorious closure to the series. The mission was hard as hell, u just pumped out ur units at an insane rate, sometimes microing them, sometimes just massing them and watching the slaughter. No resources managing, no go back to ur base and check if ur gas is depleted.... just pure an plain epic action...

    Tears comes to my eyes....
    Waiting...

    The damned will return...
