A new post by Avarius :
And did the hardened shield get a new name?A good amount of zerg units are affected by the immortal's Hardened Shell. They are particularly effective against roaches, ultralisks, and spine crawlers. Also, Psionic Storm and Nuclear Strike do not appear to be affected by the Hardened Shell as the immortal I just nuked disintegrated gloriously.

lol!
That's interesting that since nuke is a spell, damage effected upon hardened shields is full, hence, can we say the same thing about Psi-Storm?

But it's probably worthy, anyways. Comparing the Immortal to the Dragoon, it looks like it's a sort of ground double-dragoon (he! no phun intended), with the hardened Shield mechanic:
It has twice the cost, twice the attack, and 166% the life of a Dragoon.Code:Immortal Dragoon Min 250 125 Gas 100 50 HP 200 100 Shields 100 (hardened) 80 Attack 20 +20vsArmored 10 +10vsArmored (ground only) (ground/air)
I wonder about the attack speed, and how useful it is against mixed forces, but any Colossus or HT will make short work of weak attackers anyways.
It's interesting that the Immortal requires the Robotics Facility and the Twilight Council. Before, it required the Gateway and the Twilight Council, shouldn't it require only the Robotics Facility now?
When you build the Cybernetics Core, you can build the Twilight Council, the Stargate, or the Robotics Facility.
Twilight Council unlocks nothing by itself (maybe some tech, like Charge?), the Stargate unlocks 2 units (Phoenix and Void Ray), and the Robotics Facility unlocks the Observer and Warp Prism. However, if you want Immortals, you need to build Robotics and Twilight Council.
2-building combinations from Cyb. Core:
Council + Stargate: Phoenix and Void Ray (same as only Stargate, parallel)
Council + Robotics Facility: Immortal, Observer and Warp Prism (parallel)
Stargate + Robotics Facility: Phoenix, Void Ray, Observer and Warp Prism (parallel)
Council + Archives: HT and Archon.
Council + Shrine: DT (and Archon?)
Stargate + Beacon: Phoenix, Void Ray, Carrier, Mothership
Robotics Facility + Bay: Observer, Warp Prism, Colossus
"Parallel" means that the two buildings can be built at the same time, so you don't need to wait for one building to finish to begin building the other one.
I see the Council + Archives and Council + DT combination very uninteresting, and Stargate + Beacon unlocks all air units. I think we could use come crossed requirements here, like "Council + Stargate unlocks Void Ray" (and it even makes sense, as the Void Ray is Twilight tech). The Mothership (if it was actually worth it's name) could require Council + Stargate + Beacon.
The Twilight Council could unlock HTs or DTs, and another building (under the Twilight Council) unlock the other. If the HT is unlocked by the Twilight Council, Psi Storm could be researched in the other building, so it's not available too early.

Hmmm. Storm is still damage over time, so I can see how that gets in - How is 'nuke' able to kill it tho? I thought the shield allowed the Immortal to survive one. (?)

The shield used to block nukes last year. They changed it, so not anymore.

Apparently, all spells pass-tru, and the Reinforced mechanic isn't applied. IIRC they said that Yamato dealed full damage quite some time ago.
I assume that the Immortal is the kind of unit that looks weaker on paper than it really is, otherwise it wouldn't make any sense to add this kind of exceptions.
