Thread: Mutalisks legacy

Slightly off topic, what would you say if Blizzard allowed every zerg unit to burrow including the air ones. If an ultralisk can make a big enough hole, i see no rason why a coruptor or an mutalisk couldn't dive into the ground. How do you think would this affect gameplay? IMO this would be something that would make the zerg stand out from the sc1 version, in the same manner the other 2 races alredy do, wouldn't it be cool, and it would also give the zerg alot mre gameplay potential and tactics

It give every zerg air unit the ability to escape AA like the viking can. I dont feel thats nessisary or good for gameplay.

Perfecttear, could you name some gameplay options it would open? Because I can't really think of anything. To me it'd be a stupid gimmick. O_o

Your point of view is similar to this: If Marines are able to shoot Air Targets, then why Corruptor isn't able to attack ground targets. Cause of gameplay, it is not that simple.

It would alow you to hide you army, prepare ambushes or just evade your enemies. Basicly the same advantages the ground units have with burrow.
Archy, well they would still be vurnable if you would have a detector. Yes it would change the battles by quite a bit, but it might make it even more interesting, i mean the protoss would be known for warpin and the zerg for burrov

edit:Sorry ramiz i don't get it what you meant with that, it makes no sense

They zerg are already known for burrow. The real question is whats leads to interesting gameplay. Is it interesting if any zerg air unit can escape AA by burrowing or is that a feature you want to keep unique to the viking.

Well they are quite a few differenced between an viking and an air unit burrowing, an viking transforms into an ground form, and uses this increased mobility so he can harass enemy units, or attack enemy units, while the unit that burrows stays immobile with no other options. So in short the viking has more than enough unique features, and avoiding AA is just one of many .

Yes there are differences but is it something you want? Does it lead to better gameplay?

Ugh, but air units' main advantages are their mobility and range. Burrow would negate those two. It simply does not compliment air units at all. T___T

@Archer , well obviously i don't know how this would affect gameplay, i can only make a rough guess.

Well i would actually acept anything new that would change the zerg gameplay a bit, and make it more interesting compared to the original. In sc1 the terrans were the most boring race to me, they were to defencive, but now in sc2, they are just wow- incredible, forget defencive, it's they who are agresive an harasing other races early on, the terran gameplay completely changed and you have so many options now , the same with the protoss and warp in.
But the zerg still feel the same old. Do i think than an all units burrow would help, i'm not shure, but it would be definetily something different and a new mechanic. It's certainly not something that should be instantly dismised. If ground units can burrow to hide or evade enemy fire, so why shouldn't the air ones also be able the same?
