Default Few questions about the battle of Amerigo

Alright, so we know that a demolition team was sent in to destroy a compromised vessel if there was Zerg in it.

I'm just wondering... don't Terrans have any form of scanning technology with which they could just scan for life forms (if they didn't already know it was infested to the core with Zerg) where they can henceforth blow the vessel up from a distance?

Also, it never occurred to me but after watching it again I'm actually pretty surprised that whatever Zerg was hiding in the rafters of the vessel was strong enough to lift an entire marine in a suit and everything up.

Another question, does anyone know if the lead guy was a Ghost or just a light infantry man? He didn't seem to be very "Ghost" material if he was one.

It would have been better to just send a demolition squid instead of a demolition team. :3

Good question. Beats me. I guess they didn't. I guess the science vessel would have been normally used for that kind of stuff, only it itself was compromised. The only other things over there were the Norad III and some cargo ships. Perhaps they were going back in to check whether or not the Zerg stayed or left, since they certainly would notice the fact that an entire crew got killed.

They were all lowly scum, if you will. No ghosts in there.

Probably would have scared all the Zerg away.

Ah good point, I forgot about the state of the situation. It was just after Kerrigan had raided the vessel for top secret ghost files right? Guess battlecruisers aren't equipped with scanning life forms, probably just battle equipment and ship detection stuff like radar or w/e.

Yeah, that seems most probably lol.

Haha wow, that does bear some resemblances. Battle of Amerigo is still cooler though lol.

Sometimes I wonder about the extent of the technology that some author's add to the marine combat suit's capabilities though.

Don't combat visor's allow marine's to detect heat signatures? This would easily allow them to see the Zerg roaming around the vessel.

There can be variation in equipment. Also do we even know if zerg are warmblooded? I would be dissapointed if they were.

Not sure, I think they're cold blooded but that's beside the point. Anything that moves generates heat.

Edit: Although, I suppose the Zerg can just stay extremely still until the marines are off-guard drinking beer. Which is probably what they did.

Um. You mean like heat of friction or metabolic heat. Eitherway I dont think your talking allot. Expecially in a powered space station.

I think that, initially, the "Ghost" was considered as such and his paralysis may have been intended to drive home the horror of the zerg. Looking back at it now, though, I'm sure Blizzard would say, "Yeah, that's just a grunt... ignore the similarity..."
    Aaand sold.

That scanning technology is limited. If it can't detect a zerg hiding under six inches of dirt...

In Loomings, the scanner technology didn't detect zerg, IIRC. Even if it could, maybe it can only detect large numbers of zerg (enough to tell you they're on the ship, not enough to tell you where). But I think the detectors aren't even that good, which would explain why the marines were completely surprised.

Also, it never occurred to me but after watching it again I'm actually pretty surprised that whatever Zerg was hiding in the rafters of the vessel was strong enough to lift an entire marine in a suit and everything up.
I'm not surprised. They're genetically engineered killers. Also, they were probably supposed to be Hunter Killers, not regular hydralisks. (In the previous mission, there was a cut (so non-canon) line of dialog where Daggoth said to leave the Hunter Killers behind; presumably the cinematic was filmed before they cut that line.)

    Nobody knows for sure.
