Thread: Brood Lord and Broodlings

@gradius: Well, maybe they used scrap metal that is pre-rusted? ^.^ Haha, i thought that was a great point. Still doesnt solve the issue of how mutas get from point A to point B (planetwise). And there were definitely mutalisks in deep space in the cinematics.

Also, why ship helicopters into space if you can develop a spaceship almost as easily?

@quirel: Isnt that already in use by the corrupter? Something more squid-like, perhaps, but idk if its as easy as just turning it into a zerg gungan sub. Great idea though.

According to this, the legendary Kraken is part octopus and part crab... sounds like a guardian + corrupter to me!

What if it had its name changed to "Kraken" or "Krakenlisk" (or some such name) and had the ability to immobilize enemy ships by wrapping them with tentacles and dealing damage over time?

    Ahh, but i digress considerably...

Awesome! Anyone who can remember Xsoldier's work on the original Stalker (and subsequent impact on Blizzards actual model) should be really excited about this.

Cant wait to see it. Make it cool

Hmm, it seems that mutas can in fact fly in vacuum, according to the battle.net SCC. That leaves us with two other explanations for how Mutas fly:

    1) Gas propulsion. The only difference is that the action of flapping the wings needs to actually accomplish something. Perhaps they have pores on their wings which eject gas, and they can control where they're going by flapping their wings.

    2) Solar Wind. Their wings might harvest and use solar ions to help propel them. Kind of like a solar sail.

Zerg minions travel inside the behemoths. Banshees and Wraiths can travel to their destination inside a Battlecruiser.

Hehehe. Thanks much! I'll do my best.

I've got a mockup for the Mantaling/Broodling/Whatever-the-BroodLord-attacks-with-ling. I'm still trying to come up with something suitably cool for the Broodlord though. The Corruptor & current BroodLord are a good base, but it's still lacking something, but I'm not sure what yet. Hopefully I'll be putting the preliminaries online by tonight at least for the Broodling.

(Still contemplating which thread to add it to)...

Dont worry as soon as you put it up youll get lots of suggestions and proposals for how to change it.
I almost wish we still had MrJack among the community. Im sure he could have helped out.

While we wait for Xsoldiers work I think it would be interesting if people would post images of kraken/squid seamonsters, or aliens that they think could give inspiration.

From the Starcraft Compendium at Battle.net:

The Mutalisk's attack is quite unusual. The Mutalisk produces and projects much smaller, voracious creatures that rapidly fly between enemy targets as it disintegrates explosively.

Rust only forms in the presence of oxygen, therefore space platforms have an atmosphere.
Ya know that whole "artificial atmosphere" thing is still a bit much for my acceptable suspension of disbelief. I just don't see enough gravity being generated to maintain any kind of atmosphere on a normal space platform. Terraformed planets and large asteroids I can understand, however.

And Gradius, I'm sorry but that whole justification of the presence of an atmosphere by the existence of a map editor terrain called "rusty pit" is quite a bit of a stretch dude. Iron Oxide may need oxygen, but it's not the only kind of corroded metal, and you don't always need a full blown atmosphere to make "rust".

Interesting theorycraft. Now what are those behemoths you mention? never heard of them! in cinematics wraiths and mutaliks can be seen in outer space!
Lots of things Blizzard will have a hard time explaining.
About Brood lord attack, what I saw in those korean videos was that mantalings were just sent there as if they had parachutes and started attacking when reached the ground, it was not the ramming impact what deals the damage as it seemed to me.

I like the theory that they have the biological ability to polarize hydrogen vectors in sacs. Who came up with that one?

    Quick Update.

I've got a concept for the BroodLord, and it's a lot closer to a mix between the current one & the original Guardian than I'd thought it would be, but I'm really liking it. They both come with some biology theorycrafting, and plenty of reference images. Fingers crossed that both of these will be up tonight. I'm gonna try and to a skeletal view as well.
