Hypothetical: Dominion vs The Empire

This threat is just for fun and speculation, but...

In a showdown between the Empire from Star Wars and the Dominion from Starcraft 2, which do you think would win?

The Empire is slightly ahead technologically, but the Dominion has proven itself capable of holding out against even the Protoss.

Here's my take:

marines would make mincemeat out of stormtroopers.
wraiths would own TIE fighters (missiles vs lasers....)
battlecruisers are probably weaker than star destroyers (no shields), but have yamato.
thors could bombard ATATs from a distance.

but again, the Empire has the Death Star and toys like the Super Star Destroyer, which could probably take a yamato to the face and still carry on.

so what do you think?

The dominion has a couple worlds tops in one mere sector, all with tiny populations, and would be crushed like a cracker over soup. A better thread would be "UED vs Empire".

Hmm well what if we restrict it to, say, a single engagement, so that the overall resources of the two sides were not taken into account.

Sure but if they're all as easy to take down as the death star (aka shoot one place and the entire thing blows up), it shouldn't be that hard

yeah, i mean i've only seen star wars once but i reckon the empire might struggle because of their colossally inadequate leadership

Well to be honest, the Empire as seen in anything other than the films seems much more efficient and powerful. I imagine that stormtroopers are *supposed* to be behave more like the clone troopers from the new trilogy than the blind retards that they are.

Not a fair contest. The Empire controlled a huge chunk of the Galaxy. In terms of manpower alone it wins, period. The talent pool would be so large the Empire would have superior admirals.

And how often has the Dominion even faced the protoss? It's never done so head-on.

Probably true, but Stormtroopers have the numbers.

WRONG! Those missiles are designed to take on capital ships, not fighters. Valkyries would slaughter TIE fighters, but TIE fighters are designed to fight other fighters... like Wraiths. Only Wraith cloaking would help there, and note they're no longer being produced as of StarCraft II.

And I think they're smaller, and don't Star Destroyers have fighter escorts? I think the Empire wins there.

Yup. On a 1:1 basis, the thor beats pretty much anything on the ground.

And what era are we talking about, that the Empire still has those toys?

I think the Empire wins. It's numerical advantage alone is so massive they can just steamroll the Dominion like Russians steamroll Finns. (Read the whole article.)

Their technology has actually been measured to be superior to Star Trek (check stardestroyer.net). That's work done by hypernerds who work in engineering.

Ironically, because the Empire's star forces are superior, giving cloaking devices from Wraiths to banshees would put the Dominion at a disadvantage. (Cloaked Wraiths would be one of the few ways the Dominion could resist the Empire in space combat.) I think the Dominion's ground power is roughly equal or superior to that of the Empire. Seriously, ghosts would pwn ARC commandos hardcore and I don't recall the Empire's ground forces having anything that could match the heaviest terran ground units (siege tanks or thors) in combat.
