I know plasma shields should be able to separate vacuum from atmosphere like a force field, but do they work underwater? It sounds like you could have an entire Protoss base under the ocean.

Maybe, but even if they can't, i'm sure a Zealot is better protected than it looks against non-breathable atmospheres. You see them as having their heads, and several other parts exposed, but in-lore, maybe their Shields don't completely dissapear, and always have the ability to keep the atmosphere isolated, even if bullets pass thru, or maybe they only need to breath thru some parts of their skin, if other parts are exposed to non-breathable atmospheres, they just breathe from the parts that aren't exposed.

Maybe they don't breathe, and get energy directly from the "sun". After all, we use oxygen to get energy from food, and Protoss don't take food. Also, not relying into a powerful oxidant could contribute to make their lifespans longer.

Personally I was thinking more of an underwater installation.

It would require a whole lot of custom animations, but It could definitely pay off in the end in my opinion. The though of a underwater sounds downright gorgeous from an graphical standpoint, though the zerg would have to be redone in a lot of regards. Specifically, the muta and the zergling. Both would need new models and animations to remain visually impressive.

But just imagine a "school" of zergfish, looking like zergling with eelike tales and small fins en mass gliding towards a underwater thorr. Hydras could probably make it through without heavy modding, they already half look like some aquatic creature anyway. In fact, most zerg units already look pretty aquatic, except the ultralisk. Perhaps they could make a gigantic sea monster to replace the ultra.

    Sheer awesomeness.

Issue 6 of the StarCraft comic just came out.

Zerg can swim! (And, presumably, hold their breaths.)

Also, you can see an amazing picture of purification ... I'll link the shot when I can find an image of it somewhere.

Zerg don't exactly breathe like we do.

They can live perfectly fine in a vacuum. They don't breathe at all.

    Wrong.

Some Zerg can survive in a vacuum. Zerglings, for one, can not however.
