And the role of GTA would... what? Fall solely to Marines?

And how exactly would that work? A Banshee is a flying unit, so it can't tank for ground units. Banshees are very vulnerable to a particular class of unit (ie: flying); you'd have to remove that vulnerability to make them useful in this context.

And of course, you can't have a flying unit that can cloak, defend itself from air reasonably well, be relatively massable (for its Tier), and have a strong AtG attack. So you'd have to nerf one of those. Nerf the AtG attack and you get... a Wraith. Oh joy.

Generally compared to the old siege tank, IIRC the new Crucio takes 3 supply, has a faster rate of fire yet lighter damage in tank mode, and has a slower rate of fire yet heavier damage in siege mode. These changed are pretty good to me. In SC1 I always hated the long cooldown in tank mode and the lack of power in siege mode. It was also kinda weak for a tank in terms of HP.

when you talk about tanks you also talk about the units that guard it.

Well, I always did think that the Cobra unit was better than the Hellion, but that's a whole 'nuther can of worms.
On the other hand, a missing Thor opens up a vehicle slot in the Terran armory. So, a Stinger-like Walkurie zu Fuss would be possible...

I never really said anything about tanking.
The way I've seen it, the Thor is part of a movement to get Terrans more mobile, away from the mass turtling of SC1. If you want something that can go on the offensive and spearhead into the enemy's base, the Banshee is the unit to use, in conjunction with the Viking.

Nerf the AtA attack, and you get... A Banshee. Oh joy!

At which point, we're back to SC1: Vulture/Goliath/Siege Tank. Just with different names.

This is a significant part of what the Thor does. That's why making it smaller isn't really an option.

Only not. They're too easily killed, no matter how many Vikings you bring. A few Corruptors will make short work of them. And the fact that you invested in Vikings means you didn't invest in ground units. Even if your Vikings win the air battle overall, all the Banshees will have been killed (since they're the prime target for Corruptors). This leaves your ground army much weaker compared to the Zerg ground army.

See above. If Banshees can't take care of themselves to some degree, then they're not going to be spearheading anything.

Vikings can be your ground force too, and they're a hell of a lot stronger than marines. And you don't need to invest in Medivacs either.

But I agree about the spearhead part, they're not spearhead units, they're simply too fragile.

Personally, I just wish the Thor would be limited to one or two missions in single player, I just hate the idea of the thing in multiplayer. I'm sure Blizzard can come up with something better to replace it.

I think the only problem with Siege tank in SC2 is that it’s a little too expensive.
