No, I'm not talking about uselessness. I'm not even talking about gameplay, period. I'm talking about the intended feel of the unit.
On the one hand, the two could not be more different. The Ghost moves carefully through the shadows, cloaking to remain hidden... uses a sniper rifle... he's the commando, the one-man army. Deadly. Deadly serious, too -- while the Reaper flies through the air, tossing bombs left and right as he wades his way through the battlefield heedless of the danger he's getting into.
But then again, there's something very similarly bad-ass about both of them, isn't there? I was talking to Aldrius a few days ago and said something to the effect of, "You know, if they ever released a SC:G post-SC2, there's absolutely no way they could get away with not implementing a Reaper level."
What I meant at the time was Nova donning the Reaper's jetpack inside enemy territory, and then using it to escape quickly through the air, while a battle raged all around her. Shrapnel and flak flying from her would-be Terran allies on the right, Mutalisks swooping in from the air to the left, and all she has to do is survive at any cost as she maneuvers the field.
And then I realized that I'd want more than just a level of this. I'd take a whole game. Sure, in-game their stunts are limited to meager cliff-hopping, but in reality, what would stop them from pulling off the most insane, reckless, and cool stunts imaginable?
Pardon the lack of colors and such, those will come eventually. Thinking of Reapers inspired me, and this is a very WIP panel from the Comic Contest submission I came up with. Yes, that is a D8 Charge he's shooting at... after hopping up an Ultralisk's claws all the way to its face.
So what do you guys think? Are Reapers the new Ghosts, that super-cool unit that's got a bright, bright future ahead?
