Default Null Shield : Why it should be brought back...

Almost everyone has agreed that PC has really no alternative. This argus link ability just plain sucks.

So, I suggest that we bring back Null Shield to replace Argus Link, only with a few changes.

According to Karune in Batch 49, the dark pylon had this ability. This is what he said:

Now, On the sc wikia, it says that the energy was 50, and it seemed like there were some limitations on what it could be cast on.

So, here is how I think it should be added:

    Null Shield

    Energy Cost : 25 energy
    Time ability lasts: 30 seconds
    Radius to cast: 12
Units that can be effected: Any

I think this provides much better strategic choices throughout a game then a replenish shield ability. Throughout a game detection is important, and 30 seconds should be enough time to get past initial defense to harass, or save your base from destruction with a few cloaked units not being hurt. This will definitely provide a better alternative, in my opinion.

    Possible Balance issues:

-Building a lot of obelisks to cloak entire armies.
-Time may be too much or too little

Well I'd ditch the Shield Battery and keep Argus link (the Protoss 'rapid but delayed shield recharge' seemed good enough)

Otherwise, Null shield seems like a good idea for a strong Tension

To be honest this ability would be much better on the Nexus to make it compete with the all too spamable probe. Players should have to decide every 30 seconds whether they want to gather more minerals or use some ability.

I don't see the point of this ability when it comes to competing with Proton Charge. There's not enough energy tension with "mine more minerals!" You'd use PC all the time unless the enemy has penetrated to the center of your base (at which point, your probes won't be harvesting anyway, they'll be running or dying).

Whereas you could use Null Shield with the obelisks you have at the edge of your base (competing with the other combat abilities). Unless you give Null Shield unlimited range, which would be overpowered considering how early you can get an obelisk.

Nothing should compete with the Probe... period.

Please tell me you were joking. :|

Actually the reason they probably won't bring Null Shield back is that they are saving it for the Grey Templar.... the unit that replaces the High+Dark Templar units in the Legacy of the Void expansion (almost same ability as the OP describes, but cloaks non-massive, non-Psionic units for ~40 sec)

Same as some interesting Spells are probably being saved for the Grey Archon.

For the record, just so new readers don't think we're incapable of answering your 'points,' probes already HAVE competition. Other units, other buildings. Spend 50 Minerals on a Probe, or spend it on something else?

But, y'know, DSquid's thing is more catchy.

Not mineral competition. Production tme competition. Time is one of the most important resources in Starcraft.

The delayed super-regen is gone. Now it works exactly like it did in SC1: a slow but constant regeneration.
