Thread: Starcraft 2 isn’t fun to watch...

Agreed with all of what Gifted said.

It might be pandering to hear the commentators in the BR's go into detail about every unit that you already know about since day 1, but it's important because not everyone has been following SC2's development.

Case in point, I was showing my friends BR5. They hadn't followed SC2 since maybe Zerg reveal (if even) and there was a ton of stuff I had to correct them on or explain to them that's changed for the BR5 build.

Most SC1 commentators don't talk about stuff people know, because it's expected to be common knowledge, and instead they focus on the meat of the game. Of course that would be more exciting than someone explaining the rules of the game, but the point is SC2 is still in its infancy. You can't comment on balance when the game obviously isn't tuned.

    I think you mean BR4.

The new pathing code is a huge improvement that makes the units do what they're told to.
It would be very nice not to fight with Dragoons or Goliaths to go where you want

The reason why its boring is because the commentator is commenting on basic things

You see, this thing here...its called a XEL NAGA WTCH TOWER
    x4

as opposed to an actual in depth analysis on strategy. I'd say without the commentary, compared to a SC1 match without commentary, their about the same.

You people are being downright idiotic and retarded. Underdeveloped metagame?

    FOR REALS?

The game HASNT COME OUT YET

    well, this

While I must say I don't agree with everything, I must accept that this vids made some points.
why should SC2 be that cartoony looking and have such a wc3ish style?
You do realize the second video was a parody on how ridiculously biased and retarded the first one was right?

When we get threads worrying about whether SC 2 is fun to watch rather than whether it's fun to play, we can truly be certain that we've entered the cold hard winter of information dearth and waiting fatigue. And the first swallow in the form of beta date announcement is yet to show itself.

False, it's not a parody, go read what each video uploader said in his description:

The positive feedback is generally decided by which parts of the game that never get any critique, or that the fans just love. The marine tank zealot and ghost are all great looking, the criticism is directed at some details that people dislike. Starcraft 2 deserves the most critical fans ever, because this game could make history, just like Starcraft did. Enjoy.

While I do agree with the positive feedback at the ending of the first video, I don't agree with everything; the only things I agree about those videos is that in SC2 the units aren't as easy to recognize as they were in SC1.
    Everything is just too cartoony/wc3ish,
    just compare:

    SC1:Lost Temple

    SC2:Lost Temple

tell me what can you say about the SC2 lost temple...
I can say it reminds me too much WC3, looks too much like Warcraft!

    AND

THIS IS NOT WAR CRAFT IN THE SPACE

    THIS IS STAR CRAFT!!!

For example, Just look at the up right corner, where's the characteristic rocky ground? or ancient ruins? gone! the whole jungle terrain ain't what it used to be.
Now, I must say I do hope they'll fix this in beta.

It looks far, far superior. The SC1 one looks more familiar, but only because it's more familiar. Familiar != good.

Are you kidding? The "rocky terrain" in the upper right corner is characteristic of LT? What, are bushes and trees not enough to keep you from building up there that you need a specific look of terrain?

Of course the jungle terrain "ain't what it used to be;" it didn't look like jungle before. It at least pretends to look something like a jungle now.

While certainly it's "improved" it still looks too WC3 ish.

    Indeed?
the jungle terrain was supposed to represent Aiur, with the "temple" in the middle or at least some interesting doodads like the High Templar Statues. if this is supposed to be "lost temple", where are those doodads? gone, everything just reminds War Craft 3, not Star Craft, this "Lost Temple" has everything of a jungle but almost nothing of Aiur! it's green almost everywhere, even the "Temple" in the middle with those yellow-green borders has that WC3 "magic" feeling that doesn't feel right, it's just too brightly, while in SC1 it used to be dark and make you feel it was "real".

It looks perfectly fine and beautiful to me. Looks like time has had its effect on LT, and now lush jungles have grown out of it.

It's going to look more like WC3 just by sheer virtue of it being in 3D.

It's too bright? A jungle is supposed to be lush and verdant.
The previous tileset is more or less the same as the wasteland one, with the exception of a few green doodads in certain places.

The new tileset makes it look more like it's supposed to look in the first place. And if you recall, before the
zerg devastated it Aiur was originally a JUNGLE world.

Seriously, consider it on it's own merits and stop looking at it through the clouded lens of nostalgia.
