I don't think SC2 looks very much like WC3 at all, I think everyone is just over-thinking the conversion into 3D.
Sonic: [dressed as a cop] Let me speak to the driver.
Grounder: I'm not driving. He is!
Scratch: No I'm not.
Sonic: Driving without a driver? Now you're really in for it.
Sonic: You know? I sure have fun.

Units do not glow, regardless of the ingame lighting. They are simply lit. You know, that thing that happens in real life, where photons are absorbed by electrons and re-emitted with a different wavelength.units aren't as recognizable as they should be due to ingame lighting system making them glow!
Lighting was done in SC1 as well. Just look at how the illumination changes as Terran models turn.
The only difference with regard to glowing is that, in SC2, they can actually have things that do glow (Psi blades, etc). Unlike SC1.
The only reason why all of that is impressive is because you have to do all of that to make a Nuke worthwhile. And it is impressive because he was able to do all of that.Uh huh… the ghost micro.. Plop. aim, shoot… Wait. Nuke goes off… What did Boxor have to do for the same? Send in ghost, BLIND observer, Distract enemy with marine and medics… EMP the nexus THEN nuke.
Making actual use of a unit should not be impressive. You shouldn't have to jump through 50 hoops to drop a Nuke. What should be impressive is making clever use of a unit. Like when, where, and how to drop that Nuke.
Like when David Kim tried to use a "tactical" nuke, dropping it on the actual enemy in combat. Unfortunately it was avoided.
If David Kim were Boxer, then there would have been Thors corralling the Protoss units towards their doom. He would have done things that would have forced the Protoss into that position. Or that Nuke would have been a distraction Nuke, while a real Nuke had been dropped 2 seconds earlier off screen, so that the Protoss player walks into the Nuke.
I'd take Dustin any day of the week and twice on Sunday over Klazart. That may be because I hate Klaz's voice. It could be because I don't find his commentary particularly insightful. It may also be because he's a FBH fanboi and I hate FBH with the fiery intensity of a billion suns.I sure have a good understanding of how the pro games are commentated I watched a lot of Klazart’s crazy commentary (lots of fun)
I’m sure the reason why SC2 is pretty boring is because of the commentators themselves.
At least Dustin doesn't prattle on about nothing when both players aren't actively in a fight...
"When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." - C. S. Lewis
"You simply cannot design a mechanic today to mimic the behaviour of a 10-year old mechanic that you removed because nearly nobody would like them today." - Norfindel, on the Macro Mechanics
"We want to focus the player on making interesting choices and not just a bunch of different klicks." - Dustin Browder

If you didn't see the absolutely beautiful piece of micro David Kim did with his Hellions... that just emphasizes my point.
If you're still confused what I'm talking about, check out 7:05-7:15. This is a trick that would not work with virtually any other unit, because the units dropped have to be 1) fast enough to be able to catch up, so there's a chance to save them (as Kim does), and 2) durable enough that they can take a few hits so the Dropship has time to fly out of range. There's no other unit that fits both criteria so perfectly.
That's not to say you'll build Hellions specifically to execute this trick, but it WILL save you a lot of resources if you can pull it off.
This is the kind of micro trick that has absolutely nothing to do with countering anything. It's exactly what you said you were looking for. But the commentators didn't point it out, and you missed it.

Hold up, it’s Rise who’s the FBH fan boy, not Klaz- he’s Savoir’s fanboy. Klaz used to really hate FBH, now he neither hates nor loves. It may also be because he's a FBH fanboi and I hate FBH with the fiery intensity of a billion suns.
Back with all gun's blazing.
