    Exclamation Warning: 2nd CWAL

I don't know if operation CWAL (Can't Wait Any Longer, from Starcraft, which hurried its release) was something good or bad. I'm just seeing that with the anxiety of waiting for SC2 some people have written about a second CWAL. Maybe its just a joke or not for real, but I saw it in many parts, not only SCL. Do you think a second CWAL may breakout? Would it be a good idea? Is it just some paranoic idea? Post your ideas, you can even critize me as long as it doesnt use rude language, want to know your opinion.

Really? CWAL made SC1 release faster? That's interesting.

Well no matter the past, if a CWAL 2 comes out, I doubt it's going to have any effect on Blizzard releasing the game faster. They'll release it when they do, just because a bunch of fans formed up into a new group (which isn't any different from just another fansite) doesn't mean anything.

Do you even know what Operation CWAL was?

It was just a group of fans on the forums who wrote stories about breaking into Blizzard and stealing the beta version of StarCraft. It didn't have anything to do with StarCraft being released any earlier.

Thats just the lie that Blizzard and the mainstream media told to cover up what really happened. You see it all started when....

Well, CWAL wasn't a plot to break into blizz, maybe the one you mention was another plot. I'm completely sure CWAL hurried Starcraft. Also, if it would been a plot to steal Blizzard, I don't see why they included it as a cheat code (operation cwal) that "fastens production time".

Alos by logic "fastens production time", wouldn't it refer to the real CWAL? "Fastens Starcraft release date". Some of Blizzard's cheat codes come to mean something real, humorous, but real like "there is no cow level".

There are rumors and truths around Operation CWAL. Here's what I know:

First, you can find out more about their website which I still have bookmarked. I used to be a contributer back in the day *blush* It was something to pass the time. http://www.cwal.net/docs/faq.shtml

First, Operation CWAL was actually in a position at that time to create a small sway. The team working on Starcraft was a small crew who slept at their desks and had a few chairs made out of pizza boxes at that time. (Referencing a source that Mike Morhaime stated) The majority of the literature was simply referring to Blizzard having the game completed, but holding back the game in an attempt of World Domination. Much of the literature was of botched attempts to get into the Blizzard Compound and liberate the Holy Artifact that was simply called "the CD". The key was that the core contributers to CWAL did so in a respectable way that dealt with their impatience. Since they "Can't wait any longer" they instead found something productive to do with their impatient passion. There were many intimidators who used it as a guise to flame... but eh, to each their own.

After Operation CWAL started to get popular, Mike Morhaime and Chris Metzen both admitted that some of the stories helped keep them motivated as it showed how passionate the community was. It didn't change any deadlines, but it helped them work on it ultimately. Some figure that's as close as a community group can get to "helping it speed up".

It fit well with the industry at that time. It got to the point that Operation CWAL had an appreciative thank you in the manual and the cheat code for "speeding up production" was named after the "group".

Unfortunately, the industry is different now. CWAL would work better with indy developers than corporations. That's my opinion.

DISCLAIMER: This is probably all that I'll disclose on the subject. I barely remember anything I touched at that time, it's been years upon years. I was a child and it was my first bulletin board. Chat rooms were the coolest thing back then.

EDIT: HAHA, way to Botch Gifted. It was Metzen, not Pardo

I never said it was a plot. I said they were fictional stories made up by people who couldn't wait any longer.

I'm completely sure CWAL hurried Starcraft.
And I'm completely sure that you are wrong.

Because it wasn't a real damn plot. It was a series of humorous stories made up to pass the time until release.

You obviously do not understand the joke behind the cheat.

Gifted, your post explains the whole "the artifacts are the key to the end of all things" in a whole new way.
