Relying on ricochet seems like a pretty bad idea. I wonder of the wurms might have some limited flight or glide ability? This would help them direct themselves in their kamikaze run. Their glaive, discus shape probably helps...
What if the wurm survives, though? Can it crawl or glide around on its own and attack?
Aaand sold.
Be it through hallowed grounds or lands of sorrow
The Forger's wake is bereft and fallow
Is the residuum worth the cost of destruction and maiming;
Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?
The road's goal is the Origin of Being
But be wary through what thickets it winds.

Arcturus Mengsk did nothing wrong. Tarsonis is just a conspiracy theory.

That's probably exactly how it works in the actual lore. The ricochet effect's probably just for gameplay purposes.
But speaking of ricochet's what do you think of an evolutionary upgrade that increases the wurm's lifespan, thus allowing it to 'ricochet' off more enemies before dissolving into nothing?

Good point. I doubt it just ricochets from enemy to enemy. Its called a glaive wurm for a reason so one can assume it cuts through enemies like a spinning glaive. Reminds me of the peahats from ocarina of time.
You can find some good pictures and analysis of the muta attack in this link from our korean friends

Apparently the glaive wurm is tetrahedral

We see Mutas shooting glaive worms in Speed of Darkness. They're basically little winged creatures, and whenever they hit something they go *splat* and get all acid-y, resulting in a lot of things melting. They don't really ricochet either.
Of course, the Mutas in the Ghost intro video shot some sort of weird glowy energy balls, so who knows. If you really need an explanation, the Zerg play around with mutations all the time, so they send out different strains of the original Mutalisk and see how they perform.
Superior capability in language does not necessarily equate to superior intelligence...but it certainly doesn't help your argument if you sound stupid.

Another look at mutas attack on the third page. Looks like a big blob of acid. Plus a hot chick with a gun.

If I recall correctly, lore-wise, the Mutalisk had an acid blob for an attack early in it's introduction into the Swarm, but most breeds had glaive wurms spliced in.
