Well, Karune did state that there was a delay between the casting and the effect.

Perhaps the swirl is just that.

I think it's a great idea, and I personally can't wait to see Terran more looking like a "Moving Fortress" type race, as in bringing SCVs out with mech and building turrets and what not when needed, kind of like sc1 but with auto-cast repair.

Although looking at BR4 I am a little worried that the game looks a little too fast and that careful micro and planning for heating battles, other than spells, will be faded out a lot by the mid-late game. Someone else think it's just me? Because I would love to be reassured that it is.
There is a theory between game designers and producers which relates to the fact that every game seems fast until played many times over. This is especially true in RTS. As your eyes get used to repetitive actions, it filters out the unneccessary items to process. After it filters, you find yourself seeing more "useful" information when you look at the game.

On a personal note, I remember when I first played starcraft, I was blown away for the first two weeks to see the actual death animation of a marine, as you see his body explode, bloody parts spread across the ground and see his popped off head arc through the air, bounce and land next to the splat. Then I remembered seeing it in mass. All this was during the first few missions of the campaign. I remember being mesmerized by how smooth the missile turret spun. My eyes don't even care about that anymore. All it sees is "7 missile turrets, 4 marines dead, 11 remaining, 7-8 zerglings, etc". Let's not go into WC3, the "closing door" animation of entering the b.net login screen. The chains always looked so smooth, I sadly admit I opened/closed that screen 3-4 times the first time I witnessed it.

I've completely digressed I believe within 2 months, all this "fast movement" will be broken down in your eyes and filtered to only viable information that you care about. Not saying it will be less beautiful, but I hope this reassures your concerns a bit.

I agree with what you are saying, but I also think that the action which is going to be far greater in starcraft 2 than it was in starcraft will make the game seem faster for a long time.

I guarantee that if you go back to watching starcraft games and compare it to watching starcraft 2 games, you'll see a big difference in the length of down times, frequency of battles and the size of battles.

So, while my brain may throw out less important things to make the game slow down, that will not change the feeling of the game being faster. It will be less fast, but still faster than sc1.

I understand that and all, but for the past 6+ months I've been watching tons of Pro SC videos daily and playing Starcraft almost everyday, and SC2 seemed like when an army died there was another army to take it's place. It just kinda seemed fast in that sense that taking the time to hold positions and move slowly forward (building turrets, thinking of Terrans slowly pushing) wasn't really viable at all..
Sonic: [dressed as a cop] Let me speak to the driver.
Grounder: I'm not driving. He is!
    Scratch: No I'm not.
Sonic: Driving without a driver? Now you're really in for it.

Sonic: You know? I sure have fun.

Alot of it is that we havnt seen armies capture and control huge parts of the map. You saw this in Starcraft1 with siege tanks and lurkers.

The other thing was that you have allot more raiding parties. So even though the main armies arnt fighting the camera is still following allot of action.

I personally still think its a viable strategy, but it will be much harder to pull off. The supply cost will hurt more than the resource cost of the tank. However, with the improved UI, it should be far easier to move siege tanks then siege them in a new spot, using shift when clicking siege after telling the tank to move.

I think it will be far easier to make a push like this in sc2. Turrets are stronger in sc2 right? So, with turrets being stronger, and tanks being easier to control, it should create an easier push.

I just dont think any of those testing the game right now want to even try it.. I bet we see a lot of it in beta.

13 minutes into the BR the Terran is at 168/200 supply, Protoss at 147/168, the game is moving wayyy to fast imo.

Isn't pro SC1 about this fast?

I'd like to say that it's possible in SC to max your supply in 12 minutes. The only difference is that in SC its so damn difficult to do that you need your opponent to do pretty much nothing. In sc2 you are able to manage an attack/defense and produce units/expand without much of a problem. The speed is not a bad thing. We will all get used to the speed of the game the more we play it.
