Thread: Battle Report #4 is OUT!!!

If you think that SC2 speed is the same as SC1 speed, you need to go back and watch BR4 again, and really take notice for when armies are killed and only moments later they have another good sized army ready to go. It looks like units and being made too fast or something =S. Go check out some Pro games, the speed is vastly different, a lot less time for strategic plays and a lot more use for running and gunning (A move).
Sonic: [dressed as a cop] Let me speak to the driver.
Grounder: I'm not driving. He is!
    Scratch: No I'm not.
Sonic: Driving without a driver? Now you're really in for it.

Sonic: You know? I sure have fun.

You aren't talking about the speed to get units, you are talking about the down times.

Down time = The time it takes to build, or rebuild an army.

You are correct when you say the down-time has been significantly reduced in sc2, and it has been done purposely to make the game more exciting and fun to watch for spectators. This game has no chance at being a world-wide e-sport if its not fun to watch, which in turn makes people want to play it.

There is a sport that I can use as a comparison between Sc1 and Sc2.

Hockey used to have stoppages of play for Two line passes, and goalies would always hang on to the puck every time the puck came to them, stopping the flow of the game, and creating non fun periods of time during the game. This hurt the overall enjoyment of watching the game.

Hockey then removed two line passes, and started making goalies play the puck when no one was around, thus speeding the game up and making the game more enjoyable to watch. Less stoppages of play made the game more exciting and interesting to watch.

The same thing happened to Sc2, they gave 6 workers in the the start to allow you to get the action going faster. They improved the UI to a point that allows you to do a better job producing units and gathering resources. Expanding is easier allowing a player to tech more. This was all done for the purpose of decreasing down-time, and increasing action.

The speed of the game has not changed, the amount of action and down-time has changed.

Sc1 you had to struggle to recover from a lost fight because it was so difficult to manage every aspect of the game, and this struggle is what caused the down-time between battles. Now instead of struggling to build an army, you'll be struggling to keep your army alive, as you build them.

I get that it's more fun to watch because of more action, and I'm not saying that is a bad idea, but no joke BR4 kinda looked like a mass game. You still had to pick your units correctly, but it seems like a lot of the strategy to the game has been lost in the lust for speed and more action. I think when you kill someones army, they shouldn't be able to jump back on their feet so quickly, it might make it less fun to watch with down times like that, but it almost feels like it's a mass game w/o it. So the game might require it, and Blizzard always puts Gameplay over everything else.

But I really hope it's just me and this BR, heck I played the game and I'm still saying this.

Man, I love Reapers. Them + Stimpacks + D8 Charges, I think they're my new favourite unit.

Define "so quickly." If you beat your enemy, then you'll have a bigger army than they do, thus making it easier for you to beat them again. If you didn't beat them, but both of you lost your army, then it doesn't matter how long it takes so long as both of you get there roughly at the same time.

BTW, you might have forgotten something: the Terran player had access to Yellow minerals for a while. That made it really easy for them to quickly rebuild their army.

I've got a feeling that you never saw the 2v2 they had at BlizzCon'09.

I'm probably going to look silly for asking, but why?

Because the level of speed at which that game played was unreal.

Then again, that's just how games with more than 2 players go.

They still need to fix that shadow that the observer makes. lol a cloaked unit + shadow?

Anyway, glad they really made the "turning black upon death" thing work out, it looks good.

Wow, I agree with all the statements that this is the best Battle Report yet!

I loved seeing more tech being used .

Both Psi Storm and Nukes look like they're going to be real pains in the butt! The former because of the ease with which they can now be cast (and how units clump up more, so it's potentially easier to hit more targets), and the latter because of how they are easy enough to attain to be a pain to stay on top of.

David Kim completely wowed me with that medivac micro!
