It's possible, but that might just be a gameplay factor. Unlike terrazine, I don't think solarite originated from the void, the Protoss have a much better understanding of it all.

Slayn elementals aren't a bad thing. They're wildlife, not genies. The galaxy is big, we now know unethical Protoss has been around in it for centuries, not to mention other civilizations as the Kalathi - any of those might have made experiments with wildlife; or automated technology could have changed wildlife through the millenia. That's how I see a rare component being in a stupid, gigantic animal with weird traits.
It doesn't matter a crystal of a neutron star weights 2 billion tons because maybe you don't need a full crystal. You might need very little if it is soluble in another substance.
