Thread: Robear's Voice Acting

    Default Robear's Voice Acting

Hey, so, I know I'm about 5 years late on this, but I got a smartphone with a decent enough microphone for voice acting, so I made a couple of test attempts today.

So, yeah, if any of you are still making any custom maps... if... then feel free to ask me for voices!

Send me your Overmind/Abathur without the effects. Your voice acting could be good enough to be closer to the real thing than mine is.

For Abathur, I recorded 2 takes and overlaid them. Doing the deep voice and the raspy voice at the same time is hard for me. Here's take 1 and take 2, and the only editing was pitch shifting them down, and some reverb and stuff.

For the Overmind, here is the good take. I also edited the try at the fx in the first post with a slightly better attempt, but I actually think I'd try recording a different try on the voice, with more varied pitch.

I'd love to hear what you can make out of them! If you have any tips for sounding more like the overmind, or know a good sfx process, I'd love to hear them. That original voice is just the coolest.

Well here's what it sounds like with my stock effects:

Of course, it'd be better if fine-tuned to your unique voice, but that takes hours. It's really all in the voice acting though. I don't think either me or you fully talk like the Overmind or Abathur, let alone sound like them. With enough practice, you'd be able to get your voice to be both raspy and deep at the same time.

Hmm, yeah, I'll keep tinkering with it. Do you think you could try running this Overmind attempt through your effect? This time I wasn't trying to talk in a low voice, so I think it might go better? Here it is with my effects, here it is with no effects. Sounds better than my first attempt.

As for not being able to do Abathur, tfw no steve blum voice

Yeah, that doesn't sound better. Well, thanks for trying it out!

Robear, you should just be a cerebrate. Your first attempt was really good at that.

I really wanna work on a campaign again. Even if it were just a handful of missions, modding is fun. Well, says the person who only did writing for one. If we can get more modders, sound effects peeps, and artists, we could do it.

Yeah, I'm perfectly happy to be cast as a cerebrate or random hybrid!

It'd be nice if there's a brief SC2 Arcade boom along with LotV. Interest in custom campaigns would be nice.

Y'know...we could do some writing/voice acting to get people to help us make a mod. Provided we sounded cool enough. It would have to be a simple side story, like the tale of a small 'Toss ship scouting the Zerg, or something like that.
