Thread: Protoss Population Growth Rate Calculation.

    Default Protoss Population Growth Rate Calculation.

    Nerazim Population growth.

    Just doing something for fun again. The reason I'm using the Nerazim population growth is because I get to ignore having to worry about the Xel'naga crystal that the Khalai Protoss have been using to enhance their fertility...

    However that works.

    So, here's the Shakuras Protoss population shown in the LotV campaign preview:

    It's blurry, so I can't see it clearly.

    It's either 158 million going by SC wiki or 164 million from what I can see of it here.

    I'll just use a flat 160 million number.

    And, the amount of Dark Templar that left Aiur around a thousand years ago:

    Defined as hundreds. So, something below 1000. Either 999 at its highest or 200 at its lowest.

    So, we have hundreds of Dark Templar a thousand years ago leaving Aiur, roughly based on Raszagal's age, and now we have their home-world of over a hundred million.

    There is a bit of an issue.

    horrendous battle began to rampage unchecked across the blackened fields of Aiur.

    The Conclave, which had ruled over the Protoss Tribes for many thousands of years,was eradicated
    along with nearly seventy percent of Aiur’s population. Thus, only a handful of Protoss heroes
    remained to watch over the beleaguered survivors of their world.
    So, around 30% of Aiur's population survived after SC1.

    Before the 30% can escape however, they incur losses:

    -----------------------
    “More than the few of us you see here were stranded on Aiur that day. There were thousands. Hundreds of thousands. I am proud to say that the majority of those who died were templar, fighting to the death to save the others. The drawback is that now, while we face death every day still, most of those who are left alive are khalai. There are few trained warriors to defend them now.”
    ---------------------
    “We scattered when the gate closed. Even the most rigorously trained among us knew a dreadful sense of abandonment when we realized that we had been left behind. Although we understood the reasoning—we few were the sacrifice to keep the others alive—it still hit hard. Most of the templar fell while distracting the zerg as the others fled.”
    -------------------------
    He immediately thought of a refugee camp. Dozens, maybe hundreds of protoss all turned as one to gaze at him. Large, lambent eyes looked him up and down, seemed to gaze into his very soul. The silence was the main thing that struck him. No cries of infants, no sobs or laughter, no murmurs of conversation—none of the things that one would expect of such a large gathering of people in one place. But then again, while the protoss were most certainly “people,” they were not humans.
    ---------------------
    Jake looked around. There were now only three trained warriors in this entire encampment of hundreds. The rest of them were khalai—craftsmen, artists, scientists. He felt slightly sick.
    So, hundreds of thousands died getting to the gate. Hundreds of thousands abandoned on Aiur, and years later, there are only hundreds left on Aiur, who thanks to Ramsey and Zamara, use the Warp gate to flee to Shakuras.

    That's an unknown part of the 30% gone, but it is implied the majority of the survivors get to Shakuras.

    Can't really do much more then that though.

    We have no idea how much that 30% is, or how many of the 30% are on Shakuras itself given the amount of forces that compose the Golden Armada in the beginning of LotV and those that were used as colonists like those on Kaldir, which represented thousands of Protoss lives.

    We'll just have to wait for LotV to go into more detail. If we do see any non-Nerazim on Shakuras in the campaign, that'll tell us if that number is just Nerazim or not, considering this is a statistic given post Aiur-Invasion.

    That 30% of Aiur's population is going to skew stuff up, but it is good rough view of it though.

    I'll assume, to be generous to the Khalai Protoss that moved to Shakuras, that only 50% or 25% of that number is actually Nerazim.

    That gives us either 80 million Protoss lives or 40 million Protoss lives.

    Now, we can do our math.

    The Low-End will be using the largest starting population estimate and lowest ending population estimate.

    PopFuture = PopPast(1 + growth rate)e Number of Years

    40,000,000 = 999(1 + x)e1000

    x = 1000(Square root of 40,000,000 / 999) -1

    x = 1.065%

    Low-end, Protoss population grew at an average rate of 1.065% per year.

    Now for the High-End, using the lowest starting population estimate and the highest ending population estimate.

    80,000,000 = 200(1 + x)e1000

    x = 1000(Square root of 80,000,000 / 200) -1

    x = 1.298%

    High-end, Protoss population grew at an average rate of 1.298% per year.

    So, we may not know how the Protoss do the nasty, we now have a rough idea of how fast it will take their population to recover in the future.

    This is the problem with how the Protoss reproduce, I don't think it was ever fully answered.

    Plus, I'm willing to bet that since this isn't final yet, Blizzard made end up removing the whole population thing from the final game once it's released.

    Well, we don't need to know how they reproduce to know their growth rates. I didn't even take into consideration the number of Protoss that die every year, so this number definitely is a very low-end figure.

    I really doubt it.

    If any planet is going to be put up into the planet pages in the lore part of the Blizzard site, Shakuras will be one of them.

    Yes well that hasn't happened yet. Plenty of people are waiting for just that.
