The first episode is pretty much meaningless happenstance and fallout from bad decisions. It doesn't necessarily get "better" but it does get more ... relevant and complex "slightly". I think you should keep going a couple more episodes at least.

Or, you know, give up on the Sci Fi genre all together.

    Blasphemy!

I'll give it another shot. I'm watching the last 2 West-World episodes right now. I'm impressed by the writers. I thought the story had been told in season 1. I didn't think you could make something interesting with a bunch of rogue robots but they're slowly bringing in new topics and I'm starting to "feel it" again.

Just watched Annihilation. It's as weird as the book, but not explained have as well. They took some major liberties and forgot to explain what the hell. It's still a good movie. Best Sci Fi movie I've seen in a while (since Interstellar??) but that isn't saying much. Recommend everyone see it. Or, better yet, read the book, and then watch the movie, so you'll actually know what the hell is up. My girlfriend hated it because she didn't understand until I spent fifteen minutes after explaining some things.

    Hidden Content:
How did you find the alien scene in the lighthouse at the end? I thought it was brilliant. The sound, the shape and movement of the alien, just perfect imo.

It was nothing like the book, so I was ... flustered for a bit. I was waiting all movie for a particular moment that happened in the book which never did. The book was particularly interesting and surprising. Then I went and thought about it, and, honestly, there's really no other way they could've condensed the book into movie form so I'm going to say its brilliant in its adaptation. As is, it is thought-provoking and tension building in an incredibly creative and unique way. Never seen anything like it, and little details and subtleties of it speak volumes. It was equal parts 'what the hell?', horror tension, and complexity.

As an aside, that's the only time where I can legitimately say 'holy shit! 4K is soo much better!!' so there's that. HDR is awesome for psychedic shit.

Also, The Expanse Season 4 was picked up by Amazon. YAAAAY!!!

Anyone here watched the show Devs? If you've seen the movies Ex Machina and Annihilation (it's written/directed by the same guy), you've got the idea though I imagine most people would find it ponderous, pretentiously artsy, aesthetically bland, heavy on the philosophy and light on the sci-fi. Anyways, the ending plot reveal of the "antagonist's" (for lack of a better description) actual goal throughout the show makes me question the initial motivation and beliefs he presented with and that is bugging me more than some of the more esoteric stuff in it.
Yes, that's right! That is indeed ME on the right.

    *SPOILER ALERT*

Yes! I really liked it! I came up with a very similar idea for a story I wanted to write a couple of years ago. I even had the same kind of opening with someone trying to run away with the tech and getting killed. Then it evolved into something else of course but that's partly because the tech worked differently. In my world, the computation was made by an infinite alien machine that resided into its own dimension and you would access its power through some helmet like devices that can wireless connect to it. Also you couldn't just see any point in time like in Devs, you would only see/feel the perspective of the user. It would bring your consciousness for x amount of time to a point basically. Another thing too is that, anyone could alter the future after seeing it and if you did, you would need to recalculate because otherwise the machine would give you a wrong prediction (had some nice twists with that ).

Anyways, I never finished writing it but the things I addressed earlier are some of the things that annoys me with the Devs universe. Namely:

-It's probably impossible to calculate the (possibly) infinite timeline of a (possibly) infinite universe at the atomic level precision with like a ~5 cube km computer. Even more so when it's done almost instantly like in Devs.
-The interface they use to navigate to any point in time is like a physical remote control of sort (iirc)... That's ridiculous. At best they'd need the full ui of a 3D modeling program or the editor of a game engine
-I can't buy the argument that you can't change the future if you see it or that only a limited number of people can.

There's other stuff too but at least the rules of the universe seems consistent I guess. Otherwise, I'm okay with Forest's motivations. How do you feel they are different in the end?

The security guard on the other end... or is that who you mean by main antagonist? His last moment felt a bit forced. Like yeah he was established as an overzealous scum and they did foreshadow it but idk. The black guy thing was kinda meh too. Unless he saw his young friend die in a prediction, then I guess that'd make sense.
