Thread: Destiny

    Default Destiny

So I've been watching some Let's Plays and Walkthroughs of Destiny, and it's slowly winning me over.

This "pre-review" beautifully summarizes my initial impressions of the game -- while everything that composes the game has been done ad naueseum in other games, the mood and settings are spectacular. That said, there is a remote, cold and artificial feeling to it that lends it an eerie aspect, something I've noticed and disliked in most other MMOs. Even so, the color and vivacity of the enemies and player characters, alongside the gameplay, help pad out the welcome mat a little bit.

Are any of you buying the game or following it?
    Aaand sold.

Be it through hallowed grounds or lands of sorrow
The Forger's wake is bereft and fallow

    Is the residuum worth the cost of destruction and maiming;
Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?

The road's goal is the Origin of Being
But be wary through what thickets it winds.

I've been a huge Halo fan since it came out. I met some of my best friends through Halo lan parties.

But Destiny just doesn't appeal to me, and I'm not sure why. I think I've become too much of a PC gamer cause of steam and modding. Consoles just don't interest me much these days.

Hype for Destiny died for me when it was announced that every planet will only have 1 area, but I did play the beta throughout its entire duration and was incredibly impressed with the game.

Destiny doesn't feel like CoD to me as much as it feels like Planetside 2, too.

Like most of you guys, my biggest draw to a game is the story. I've been following videos and boards (cough Destiny Reddit cough) and am extremely sad to hear that the plot and story are largely absent. Given Bungie's long-term plans for the game, however, hopefully that will be changed. :\

    EDIT

So this seems to form the bulk of the story. Having seen the final boss battle and absolute lack of story, coupled with the always-online and XBox Live Gold requirements, I probably wouldn't buy this if I were still a big gamer. Hell, I can't even rent it from RedBox because of these requirements.

If Destiny DID come out for the PC, would you have been interested?

Possibly, if I could still use a controller. I hate playing FPS with keyboard and mouse.
