Thread: Ranting about Firstborn

"Using a Starcraft standard of logic"?

I don't know what that means, but I'm really tired right now, so I'll just say that it's weird that Zamara would call releasing Wright from resocialization a "certainty." Insanity is hardly certain or predictable.

With enough knowledge and intelligence, everything is predictable. Everything. Randomness is an illusion made when too many variables must be taken into account for the human mind to process. Don't take my word for it, look at the works of statisticians and mathematicians. If something as subjective as music taste can be modeled and predicted using numbers (called compressability) along with a thousand other experiences I've had and heard of, I see no reason to assume otherwise. It's just that its impossible to have infinite processing power and perfect knowledge.

Zamara is more intelligent than any human, and, I assume, most Protoss, and is drawing from the wisdom and experience of an entire race so I have no problem with her saying such a thing with a reasonable amount of certainty, especially using the StarCraft standard of logic. Which is simply to say that StarCraft's very premise is to bend the rules for the sake of story telling, no need to nitpick something small like this from a side author.

It's space magic. Everything is easily explainable. She might have done something else to his brain too. He knew, after all, that it was Jake who freed him.

You can say that all you like, but that's just speculation. It's never made clear how Zamara affects him, and she simply states that she's undoing the resocialization. And no, Econ, there's no reason to assume that his behavior is predictable. It's just a dumb way to get from point A to point B.

More complicated things than that had been predicted and quite easily using modern knowledge and technology. Either way, there is absolutely no reason to assume it is not predictable. Trust me, mankind's predictive capabilities are getting exponentially better along with all other technology. Factor in Protoss technology, Protoss intelligence, and Zamara's wisdom and experience, and, of course, space magic and you've got something very capable of predicting something simple like human behavior.

    Wait, what?

....You really don't get it? I meant that using a cannibal killer in this way was a cheap way to get both Rosemary on Jake's side, and the both of them out of a bad situation. And the whole "space magic" thing is exactly my critique of it. She's a mystical Protoss who has amazing abilities despite being trapped in a non-Protoss body, and that's ridiculous.

I know "space magic" is your critique of it. It's just that your standard seems to come and go randomly. One space magic here is fine but space magic there is infuriating. Ironic considering StarCraft is now basically one big "space magic clusterfuck". I don't know why you subject yourself to StarCraft if you have problems with "space magic".

    For example,

She's a mystical Protoss who has amazing abilities despite being trapped in a non-Protoss body, and that's ridiculous.
I'm sure you have absolutely no problem with the existence of Kerrigan at all. Yes, she's infested, but that can only go so far. This can only be explained by space magic, nothing else. Yet, no complaints from you as far as I know. Hence, the term 'StarCraft standard of logic' otherwise known as the 'Deckard/Gradius Filter'.
